This is a ruin, as the name suggests, there is no museum or real structures as such there. However it does provide an insight into the history of Japan, and is one of the most significant historical sites in the country. Truely ancient.
On the down-side, although there are information boards that have English and Japanese descriptions, I would have liked the option of a tour (or something) so that I could ask questions. I guess there are just not enough visitors to justify it.. which, in all honesty, is part of the beauty of the place.
Lovely surrounds and would recommend a visit if you are interested in the history of Japan.

Well worth a visit. Is the third best garden in Japan and a great deal of it is the lake.
The fish are well used to being fed (you can buy food for them on entry) and it is the first time i have seem fish openly "begging" and when food is thrown in they go into a frenzy.
The tea house/bath house although rebuilt after destroyed in the war is good.
Well worth the entrance fee!

Three lifelike moving and roaring models outside the station. Have explanations in English and are good for photo opportunities. Marred a bit at present by local improvement works.

There are two local trains in Fukui - the Echizen Railway (Echitetsu) and Fukui Railway (Fukutetsu). This, the Echitetsu, runs from a station just outside JR Fukui station, and is the best way to get to either Katsuyama (for the Dinosaur Museum) or Mikuni (for Tojimbo, etc) by public transport. It's easy to get tickets and use the trains.
If you're going to Mikuni on a return day trip, I recommend getting a "1 day free pass" for 1000 yen, as you save around 400 yen. For Katsuyama, you can get a special priced ticket that includes the train and the museum.

Natural history museum which was free on day we visited but is well worth fee normally charged. Also a small zoo further away. Nice woodland and plenty of butterflies and birds.

A short walk from Fukui station, you can find a nice little shrine, and ruins of the old castle walls that give you an impression of Fukui's history that was built over. There are some interesting statues, and a large model of what Fukui castle used to look like. It doesn't take long to see it all, but is worth a quick visit.

We cam here on our way through town. The entry fee is 100 yen. The museum is small but very well laid out with good exhibits. Well worth the time to get here. It gives a good look at Japanese history.

" Hapirin " is located on the west side of Fukui Station Fukui City . Is on the west side of the station square there is a dinosaur of the Monument, and its just on the right-hand side . A new shopping centre in front of Fukui station, full of restaurants (ramen, sushi, an izakaya, Cafe Pronto, Burger King, etc.), and shops selling Fukui's local products and souvenirs. There's an open area at the front that often has an event going on, such as a market. Make your way to the top floor to find the Planetarium, which can be entered for a small fee (not been inside yet, so cannot review it). For a place to buy Fukui souvenirs and have lunch, it is a welcome addition to the Fukui station area.

History is always interesting, learning how people lived and how societies have been shaped by history provides us a window into life in a different time. This museum tracks the history of Fukui from before the 1500's to the present day. Of particular interest was the time around WWII and the years after.

We visited the falls on a day trip around Fukui. The falls were pretty small compared to some of the falls we have in the US, but was a sight nice to see. Not sure I would go out of my way to visit -- what you see if the photos is basically what you'll see when you get there.
