Museo Naval

Reviewed By holiday-view23-7-11 - Basingstoke, United Kingdom

There is so much variety as well as quantity within the walls of this museum. Models of ships from across the ages, parts of all kinds of engines, actual boats and pieces of wood reduced from old ships. This place is a haven for those interested in naval history as well as engineers and designers. The cost was included in our tour of the Arsenal which was also amazing especially as our guide was so informative however it seemed strange to have an armed guard walking round with us to ensure we did not take any photos. This place would be suitable for people of all ages and abilities.

Castle of San Felipe

Reviewed By Alex F - Tampa, FL

What a great fort! But lacking of maintenance and love. The security guard at the entrance could not provide us with any information about this castle. The driving from Ferrol is a bit long, narrow roads, no signage. The the return back to civilization even worst. You cant go back the same way you came in, and it really takes you into the interior. On big plus after a long drive to location, a relative modern and clean bathrooms!

El Banco Mas Bonito del Mundo

Reviewed By Ray V - Chaves, Portugal

The bench was placed overlooking the view and someone wrote "the best bank of the world" (sic,) on the back. The idea was to write, "the best bench in the world" but the world "banco" in Spanish can be translated as either "bank" or "bench" and unfortunately bank was chosen. Now the words have gone viral and few Spanish see the mistake. Foreigners probably think the words refer to a commercial bank. Oh, well.

Exponav

Reviewed By Asta365 - Kent, Texas

The EXPONAV museum is a very serious and high-minded museum that deserves kudos for the quality of its presentations on naval architecture and the history of ship building. There is much for a layman to learn at this museum, but recognize it is not aiming to entertain visitors. Do check out the recovered portions of a frigate that was underwater for over a century, the really beautiful spaces the museum occupies in the old arsenal, the work-up of how ships were built, and the old shipwrights' tools.

Arsenal militar

Reviewed By holiday-view23-7-11 - Basingstoke, United Kingdom

This was a really amazing tour and well worth taking. We had to wait at the gate to get permission to enter and once inside we were escorted by an armed guard. Our guide was really knowledgeable and gave us the history of the Arsenal and how it was used also the fact that it was built on the other side of the bay at first but as they noticed it was soon being outgrown it was moved crossed the bay to a large site. The site also includes a marina with naval ships and ship building and maintenance areas. It would be a suitable tour for a lot of adults of not so good for children as you must stay within the group and our restricted due to their security.

Playa San Xurxo

Reviewed By TheLegendWiltshire - Wiltshire

We drove here from Ferrol, about 20 minutes drive, free and plentiful parking, and lots and lots of space. It's a large crescent shaped beach and we settled at the left hand side below the bar. This was a good spot for our two year old as the waves were much more gentle and as the tide went out lagoons/pools were left that made swimming safe. It really was fantastic and we had a great day.

A Magdalena

Reviewed By L C - Bath, United Kingdom

Our second visit to this Naval Port City of Ferrol with time to walk through the area called A Magdalena; an area of straight narrow roads with tall buildings and intersections. The roads will take you eventually down to the Military Arsenal and Port. The Port offers tourist boats to Mugardos and Ferrol Estuary.
A Magdalena has interesting houses and architecture and a variety of shops, restaurants and bars. Some areas are a little run down but overall there is a real charm about La Magdalena! Good central underground parking.

Central statue if Marquis of Amboage. Lots of restaurant/cafe/bars to sit and people watch although free benches to the periphery. Another pleasant square.
