MRT

Reviewed By bob2bkk - Bangkok, Thailand

There are two main transportation systems in Bangkok, other than taxis and busses. The BTS Skytrain, like the name implies, above ground and the MRT, which is the subway. The MRT is by far, hands down the more efficient and better managed company of the two. Unfortunately for tourists, the BTS takes you thru the center of the city. The MRT circles around from Hua Lampong train station to Chatujack weekend market. MRT offers monthly passes, senior and student tickets. No senior tickets at BTS. The MRT has escalators from train platform to ticket counter to street. The BTS, was just forced to put in elevators and some stations do not have them at all. The MRT will be your best option if it takes you close to where you need to be, ex. work or school. It also brings you close to Thailand Cultural Center and right to the door of the Queen Sirikit Convention Center. Plan on very cold air conditioned trains.

Nai Lert Park Heritage Home

Reviewed By aandlkch - Kuching, Malaysia

We were fortunate to be in Bangkok at the time of the Nai Lert Flower and Garden Art Fair and were there on the first of the 4 days. It was all quite stunning and we would really describe much of it as floral art installations, which were set out variously around the park amidst the park's natural and permanent landscaping. The most amazing display was the chandeliers competition entries in the glasshouse - mind-blowing. There are also craft and food stalls, and a visit around the Heritage Home was included in the ticket price (150 THB). This is an annual event and we certainly recommend it for February 2020.

Siam Center

This is one of the most popular shopping art complex that locate right at the HEART of Bangkok. Highly recognise as Art Shopping and a place to Shopping, recommended items are such as clothing by Thai Fashion Designer, shoes, handbags, Unique fashion accessories, jewelry and Thai souvenirs. Siam Center started operations in 1973 as Thailand's first shopping center of international standards. It marked the birth of Bangkok's booming retail business and has maintained its position as the city's fashion trendsetter up until today. After a major renovation, Siam Center reopened at the beginning of 2013 with a revolutionary retail development concept of "Ideaopolis". The shopping center serves as an arena of limitless imagination and creativity where art, fashion, technology and lifestyle converge. It aims to place Bangkok among the ranks of the world's top retail environments. Siam Center has also changed the face of Thailand's retail business with its unique "Absolute Siam" concept. For the first time in retail history, brand owners and retailers have joined forces to create new store designs for the shopping center that are distinct from any other branch. Moreover, 20% of the stores' offerings are unique to and only available at Siam Center. This is to create "the Most Powerful Retail Phenomenon", an unexpected and inspiring one-of-a-kind shopping experience for both Thai and foreign visitors.

As you walk into the Siam Center, there proudly displayed is the award for best design and development for a mall in Asia. This award is from 2014. It is an amazing mall and incredibly massive. It has 8 floors with the cinema occupying the 7th floor while you have the main food courts on upper floors . Food stalls are also scattered around. There are various types of shops ranging from brand fashion/electronic stores to smaller one person stalls. You will need a few hours to a day if you want to go fron store to store. A good place to explore and spend the day.
