An excellent Second World War museum telling the story of the Bloody 100th Bomb Group. Very friendly staff where some were children who lived just next to the base. Fascinating to listen to their stories of the brave aircrew who flew from the base.

Bressingham Steam Museum and Gardens

Bressingham is a Charitable Trust preserving Steam Transport of all kinds in a Garden Setting which the whole family can enjoy. The aim of the trust is to provide moving steam powered exhibits full of life rather than a purely static display, so expect some smoke, soot, oil, and working exhibits you can get close too rather than a roped off lifeless collection. The majority of staff have always been volunteers, who graciously give their time for others to enjoy the collection of steam artefacts given by Alan Bloom to the trust.

Visited here for the first time on a warm October day. Pleasantly surprised at the whole area geared towards family’s and steam engine enthusiasts. The Gardens even in mid October were still very colourful and the displays of a bygone era were impressive. The walks are very pleasant. We shall return in the spring when there is sure to be a new show of life after the winter.

Stayed near Norwich for a long weekend away and spent one of our days at Banham Zoo... what a fun day, lots of different animals, some fantastic enclosures, and a rural location meaning the site is very spread out which means you can make a full day out of it but it also feels less crowded for animals and visitors alike. Was also nice to go in term time as without hordes of people it almost felt like a private tour and shows like Penguin feeding was enjoyed with just a handful of other visitors. Can see why this would be an ideal place to go over and over again for both adults and kids alike. Highly recommended!

Yaxley Cherry Tree

Reviewed By suffolk-john - suffolk

Yaxley Cherry Tree has been our "staggering distance" local for 8 years (and we do stagger sometimes!) The pub has had several tenants in that time since Andy the owner has moved on, the last of which was Russ......a proper old fashioned landlord who improved the decor and turned the pub into a much cosier, warmer place to be. Russ has now passed the reins onto Allie, a former member of the bar team. And a damn fine job she is doing so far.
No major changes but little tweaks. A few different ales although still too many GK ones IMHO. All well kept however. Towels in the gents! Now open at 4.00 pm on Friday afternoons although I'm not sure this is a good thing after our session last Friday! And a chef! It appears that chefs are in short supply around here but Allie has managed to secure the services of one who is producing good quality pub food.....all we want from our local.
I'm sure the garden will get more use next year as well and Allie is tentatively talking about a beer festival in February. Bringing the good times back.
The Cherry Tree used to jokingly be known as the "warm beer, grumpy landlord pub with stamps"......none of this applies today. more like a cosy and friendly village local. Just what we need in Yaxley.
Oh, the review title......unbelievable that the menu doesn't feature sausages with the huge amount of quality sausages in Suffolk. Could you serve me egg and chips (or mash and gravy) and I bring my own sausages?
John

Highly recommended for an alternative to go-karting. We visited a couple of weeks ago as a birthday treat for my husband. The briefing was thorough and advice was clear. It's great fun, though takes a little while to get used to driving. We went for the 45 minute session and I had a couple of laps, my husband the rest of the time. A good option if you want to try it out. The venue is easy to access from the A140 (take no notice of the scruffy farm entrance, the land is rented from the farmer) and there's an excellent deli/café really close by (at the old Chilli Farm)for a drink or lunch, so you can make a day of it. Plenty of eateries further along the A140 too. We would go again and have suggested it to friends.

The English Whisky Company

Making really great single malt whisky in England is paramount to what we stand for here at St. George's. Why England? Why not? We have fantastic water in the Breckland aquifer beneath our feet, we have the barley, the maltings, the yeast and now the distillery. We don't add colour, we don't add flavour, we let the barrels do that for us. Our whisky is batch made by hand with no computers, matured in fine casks, bottled on site using our own water and is non chill-filtered. We are really proud of these things and believe you will taste the difference too. The Distillery is open daily from 9am - 5.30Pm throughout the year (with the exception of Christmas day, Boxing day, New Year's day), running regular tours of the working part of the distillery.

Reviewed By Ian C - Dereham, United Kingdom

We took the excellent £10 one hour tour which happened to be on a cleaning Wednesday and therefore nothing was being distilled. However this allowed us to see inside the empty, cleansed still while the guide explained the various processes of whisky production which obviously cannot be done when the stills are operating. A look inside a Bonded Warehouse - worth millions - and a tasting with examples of different whisky types and 'flavours' completed the tour. Also on site is a very nice, reasonably priced tearoom and of course a shop with an extensive range of whiskies ...not so cheap but it didn’t stop me from purchasing!
