Anta da Aldeia da Mata

Reviewed By PajaritoLondon - London

Tried to drive up to it from the signpost (a good clear sign post) on the main road, ensuring gate was closed ( cows in fields) behind. Track a bit rough. No one in the farmhouse at the end of the track. There was a fork in the track (no signpost) where it was to be assumed the track would lead to the Anta. Had to turn around as there was a bull in the middle of the track.
Best views were in fact about 500 meters down on the main road, where it became apparent that the monument was surrounded by approx. 30 cows. The warning would be assess whether it is worth the risk visiting, particularly if the there are cows with calfs.

You have to go to see these tapestries to quite appreciate how stunning they are. They are beautifully displayed (excellent curating). It is the sort of experience that makes you think to go back the next day.

Casa Museu de Alpalhao

Reviewed By dianinha m - Lisbon, Portugal

There are many Jewish quarters all over Europe but not many from the middle age and none from this period so well preserved as this one. One should also underline the role of the municipality considering the promotion and preservation of the Jewish buildings like the Synagogue and the Fountain. Enjoy!

Casa Museu Padre Belo

Reviewed By dianinha m - Lisbon, Portugal

É impressionante a grandeza colecionadora do Padre Belo. Obrigado.

Offers recreational activities and environmental education with birds of prey, promoting the preservation and dissemination of historical and cultural heritage of falconry. Learn how to handle and fly a hawk whilst enjoying the scenic landscapes of Alentejo in close contact with nature and wildlife. A lifetime experience!

We had a little trouble finding this- it was hard to locate on our GPS. The grounds are expansive and include a large and interesting stable with the Alter-Real horses. The horses are magnificent and their history is very interesting. The experience with the falcons(and eagles and owls) was incredible and this is really not to be missed and worth every effort to locate. The handlers were very dedicated and the displays and educational materials, including a short film, were fascinating. You learn a lot about this ancient sport and the interaction with the birds themselves is unforgettable. They are splendid creatures and it is a privilege to be able to hold and stroke them.

Not much to do or see but the ambience is worth soaking up. There are good eateries and bars. Luckily Portugal is on a reasonable time frame for opening hours unlike Spain so meals can be eaten from 7 onwards in the evening.
