Parque Natural de Penyal D'Ifach

I've been coming to Calpe for 40 years - and this year I resolved to climb the rock - which I did on Christmas day. There are some sections that are not for the faint hearted - and I can only agree with the warnings to wear proper walking footwear - it's slippy in places with many parts of the "path" being just a scramble over sharp rocks with a precipitous drop beneath you. All that having been said, the view from the top is worth the effort.

The road leads about half the way and then it is blocked and you have to continue by foot - about 500 m. in steep climb. Then it becomes flat along the mountainside with great views to all directions - fron Penyal d'Ifac on one side to Faro Albir on the other.

Promenade of Calpe

Reviewed By lovetrav_9 - Old Colwyn, United Kingdom

Walking along the Calpe Promenade from Plaza de Colon to the Port area is for me one of the real pleasures of holidaying in Calpe.
The winding Promenade which has views of the mighty Peñon de Ifach rock for almost all the way has numerous cafes, restaurants and bars which should satisfy most tastes.
For those searching for souvenirs, there are a number of shops along the Promenade, but one that is a personal favourite of mine is MB Regalos at Avenida Gabriel Miro 52. I have frequented and bought items from this shop for many years and have found the lady owner to be a courteous, honest and sincere person who sells quality items at genuine prices. Well worth a visit.
Having holidayed in Calpe countless times over the past forty years, I have seen many changes, almost entirely for the better, but not all. The change that has saddened me the most is the height of some of the buildings and I hope Calpe doesn’t lose its charm and becomes a second Benidorm.
In conclusion, I just hope that anyone Reading this enjoys Calpe and the Promenade as much as I do.

This wide, clean beach is on the Moraira side of Calpe, surrounded by numerous hotels and holiday apartments - even out of season the sand is raked and maintained in pristine condition. There’s a nice Promenade and even at the end of December it was quite busy with visitors although the majority were inside cafes. Even out of season it was difficult to find parking so goodness knows what it’s like mid summer. Found it rather annoying to see signs prohibiting cycling and hawking on the Promenade but that’s exactly what I experienced. Even saw a couple of hardy blokes taking a (very) quick dip in the sea!

Been here many years. Sad to see it becoming another Benidorm with massive tower blocks right by the Promenade and nasty cafes emerging, serving below average food. I wonder who the planners are accountable to? Can't be the local people.

A very pretty coastal footpath that does literally hug the coast ie between the land and the sea. As you progress on the coastal footpath towards Moraira there are some delightful bars for a coffee/beer and some very pretty bays almost picturesque to take in !! Not to mention two designer environmental (ecological) parks which just add to the enjoyment !!

Located between the 2 main Beaches of Calpe and hemmed in by busy roads this is not exactly a tranquil haven for birdlife. We did spot Flamingoes but they seemed to congregate on the far side of the lagoon - also they were mainly white and so guess youngsters? Spotted a few small species birds in and around the surrounding vegetation so if you are a Twitcher then I’m sure the area will keep you occupied for a while but if not, then it’s only worth a short stop if passing.

These submerged Roman ruins may not be picturesque but they are steeped in history and easily viewed even for the young, older folk and those with disabilities as they can be seen from the Promenade.
