Paramount Ranch

This Old West town at Paramount Ranch, which is authentic enough to fool a ghost, was forsaken by Hollywood.

Reviewed By kcslatts - Malibu, California

So we have been here for a horse back ride, which was a lot of fun. We rode through the western town and into the hills. But this review isn't for the horses, it is for the "Ghost Tour" of the ranch. What this consists of is a nice evening walk among the ranch's Hollywood sets and into the hills with a group of people led by a park ranger. Nothing scary or haunting really, people tell ghost stories and you hear history about the ranch. I love that they are doing this to get more people to come out and visit the ranch. It is free during the time of year that they offer it and there are plans for later in October, the 27th I believe for a scarier Halloween experience at what they are calling Scaramount ranch? Beautiful evening, nice walk, we had fun. Congrats to the park service and check out the big event coming up.

Pepperdine University

Reviewed By Caroline L - Los Angeles, California

Every year Pepperdine University honors the victims of 9/11 with a flag display on their front lawn. Each victim is represented by a full size flag and to see the display is something else. It puts the sheer magnitude of the lives lost that day into perspective as the flags cover the hills of the university located just off highway 1. They usually are left up for a two week period so if you have the chance to make it out to Malibu during this time, I would highly recommend it. Parking is free alongside the university and the best days to go are during the week as it's less crowded. At night, the flags are lit which creates a very humbling solemn experience.

Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum is a must-see Southern California tourist attraction. Walk onboard Air Force One, act in a movie with Ronald Reagan, touch a piece of the Berlin Wall, and so much more.

Reviewed By Julie K - Las Cruces, New Mexico

$25 admission, self guided tour of museum, lots of info. on Reagan’s life from childhood to film career and politics. Most impressive was the Air Force One plane and Marine One helicopter. Grounds overlooked Simi Valley, beautifully landscaped with memorials on site. Cafe and gift shop were both good. Free parking. Loved this place!

I've been to the Spa at Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village twice (both times my visit was the result of receiving a gift). Also both visits provided the "whole package", so I enjoyed about 6 hours of pampering and relaxation and rejuvenation. The Spa offers several different package options, so if you aren't familiar with the scope of services provided, stop by and inquire, the spa desk staff are exceptional and extremely welcoming and helpful. As is to be expected, the hotel offers valet service, but you can also free park in the hotel's free parking area, and its just a short walk back to the spa. You might be a bit tense and worse for wear when you arrive, but when your spa day is over you will be rejuvenated. First Class Service with a smile.

You could easily miss this place as it's right in the city. We visited in December so many of the flowers had already bloomed, but there were still some that were still alive. They also have a very beautiful Japanese Garden and a pond full of Koi fish, a couple of waterfalls and a beautiful gazebo.

Walk the site and check out the helipad. Most of the set has been removed, but it is still easy to visualize the many years that MASH was filmed in the Santa Monica mountains. Great hike to the film location by the lake and through the woods. Plenty of parking, pay lot, and clean restrooms. Great place to picnic.

The drive to Malibu Creek State Park is awesome. There are many mountain views and photos to be taken before you arrive. There are many also a lot of different trail heads depending on your skill. Definitely a rock climbers dream location. Many movie scenes have been filmed here. From cowboys to spaceships you can recognize them. Get a early start if you plan on seeing the entire park in one day. It definitely would take 2 days to enjoy the park and see all the places it offers. Great place to soak up the sun in nature. We will be back soon to checkout the lake!

It was 930 am on gorgeous California morning. My 10 year old daughter and I were waiting at the Paramount Ranch to go horseback riding, her first time. We were greeted by two horse trailers. The guides were unloading the horses and immediately gave them food to eat while we all got signed in and debriefed. We chose the ride through the old movie sets were shows like little house on the prairie and gun smoke were filmed. The ride lasted a little over an hour and our guide Scott AKA Scooter could not have been a better guide. He spent time speaking to each guest on the ride asking what they did for a living and why they chose the work. He spent time explaining all of the history of the Ranch and all of the different movies filmed there. He made my daughter feel extra special teaching her a few tricks of riding horses ect. I have been horseback ridding many times all over the country and I can say this was one of the best times I have ever had. My daughter loved its so much she want to go back next weekend, Thank you Malibu Riders for and wonderful memory made with my daughter and your guide Scooter! We will definitely return!

The Canyon Club

Reviewed By PeterCharon - Bournemouth, United Kingdom

Our friends who took us knew very well that the food offer is not good enough. So we just went for the Rat Pack show, and as it was not so packed we were able to get a table off the four of us near the bar. The performance itself was ok, not the best, not the worst Rat Pack. Otherwise I agree with the other recent postings. There is no pride of ownership in the venue, its grubby, the restrooms were awful but I guess some folks won't care. Unless the gig really invites you to go and see it, don't bother. If you do, eat somewhere else first and make your long drink last as long as possible!!
