It's hardly a 60km drive from Kolkata. Approach road is very and full of local traffic. You can take either of the two routes - Haroa road from Chinar Park or NH-34 via Badu to Berachampa.
Chandraketu's earthen fort is there no more. Only ancestral remains of Khana & Mihir's house from where Khana used to articulate her sayings is open for tourists. The excavation has been left half done. The fort's graveyard is also closed by govt now, but open for tourists for a quick visit. One can also visit the Peer Gorachand sharif and monster pond in front of it. It's said, Chandraketu offered two Muslim boys (hama & dama) to the monster staying inside the pond to save his province, from where it derived its name.
Overall - a good for a winter stroll for local people, not worth for outsiders. No proper food joints available nearby. Remember to pack your lunch box.

Bally Bridge

This is one of the four Bridges spanning the river Hooghly near Kolkata. The other three are the recently constructed Nivedita bridge,Vidyasagar setu or Second Hooghly bridge and the glorious Howrah bridge.
From childhood,I was mesmerized with this bridge,as we used to visit Dakshineshwar, and the long distance trains used to traverse the bridge making a loud 'gommm,gommm...' sound while crossing the river. I used to sit on the banks watching the bridge and the trains on it. Much later when I went to study in a hostel, the same bridge was crossed by me so many times in those trains, that I felt bored, and usually slept throughout the journey.
Recently went to Dakshineshwar again and then crossed Nivedita setu (bridge) for some reason, and felt those childhood memories once again seeing the Bally Bridge

Howrah Bridge

Reviewed By Devesh J - Surat, India

How many years since now, have we been fascinated and charmed by this name ? A hindi bollywood movie by the same name was released in 1958 - years before a majority of the readers of this would have been born !!! Despite the same, the charm, the feelings of seeing something really magnanimous, that of seeing something really different, that of seeing something really exquisite in India, that this bridge emanates still remains. It may be a routine affair for the regular commuters to pass this bridge, but for some people like us, who have been fascinated by this name since birth, it indeed gives a different feeling.
To cap this feeling, I last passed through this bridge at around 11:00 in the night and thus it was not crowded - it appeared like a king presiding over the holy water of river Ganga - still flowing full to both of its banks. Great !!!!
