Royal Biriyani

Reviewed By dbsgi - Kolkata

One of the best places to visit for Biryani and Mutton Chaap. A very traditional and old restaurant in Kolkata. They have their main restaurant in Chitpur. The new one has opened opposite Quest Mall. Wonderful service and the best Chaap I think you get in Kolkata. Order the special Biryani with two pieces of Mutton, and I promise you you won't miss the egg in the Biryani!

Azad Hind Dhaba

Reviewed By Shourjendra D - Kolkata (Calcutta), India

I always prefer going to Azad Hind Dhaba,Gopalpur than going to Azad Hind Dhaba,Uluberia. The dhabas are allegedly rub bt cousins, but Gopalpur is way better
Situated about 70 odd kms from Kolkata on the NH-2. It is few kms before the Palsit toll plaza and Hindustan Hotel at Gurap.
Car parking is ample, and it is situated at a Petrol Pump by Bharat Petroleum,so it is not so difficult to find out as well.
The parking attendant is very nice and prompt, coming to your car with an open umbrella for rain or Sunshine.Parking is obviously free
Food quality is A-class and its not pricey too, unlike the same dhaba at Uluberia. check out my accompanying pictures.
Try Sarson da saag and makki di roti , though only available in January. Tandoori chicken is to die for,and unlike other places not burnt. Their Tandoori roti,Butter nan, keema nan,all are finger licking good. Also exceptionally tasty are Egg Tadka and the Chicken reshmi butter masala. Gulp all this down either with cold drinks or chai, which is also available.
I have been to this place number of times, since last 5 years. Also had breakfast, comprising puri and chick-peas sabzi, here when I was traveling on NH-2.
Fantastic place for a Sunday 'lunch-away-from-home' .
The only negative side of this place is the kid's corner. It is supposed to be maintained by Bharat Petroleum - THEY DO NOT DO ANYTHING AT ALL !!
All the kid's rides are either broken with sharp jagged pieces of plastic or iron projecting out,or else the grass on the small kid's corner is uncut and garden is shabby. Repeatedly telling the restaurant (Azad Hind Dhaba)beside the garden, has gone to deaf ears. They say, that Sir,we cannot do anythiong,as garden and children's rides are maintained or rather NOT maintained by BP.
This place does not have a bar,and drinking is prohibited on it's premises. Service is a tad slow, especially during rush,as number of waiters are less

Ramkrishna Mistanna Prathistan

Reviewed By sumantra_travel - New Delhi, India

25 January, 2018.
The Wife's cousin was coming in from one of the suburbs of Kolkata,
Seoraphuli. Well, this is strictly not Kolkata, but Hooghly. He
is a connoisseur of sweets (and food in general), and got us two
lovely items from the best-known sweet house in the locality,
Ramkrishna Mistanna Prathistan. The sweet boxes are nothing to
write home about, and quite non-descript in their appearance,
with not even the name of the joint written on them. However, the
sweets were delicious. He had got us a good sampling of the wares:
a kara pak, and a naram pak (a dry and soft version,
respectively) of a milk- (khowa-) based sweet. Both were delicious!

Dilligate

Reviewed By RajdeepBhattacharjee - Kolkata (Calcutta), India

Dilli Gate is located in Topsia crossing just opposite to the Mercedes-Benz show room. We were planning to visit China town but one of my friends suggested to try this place. It doesn't look like much from the outside. To be honest, it doesn't look like much from the inside either. They have two separate sections; small one is for hukka and bigger one for dining. Ambiance was nothing special but sitting arrangements were comfortable enough. We started with ‘Chicken Manchow’ soup. Tasted pretty average but quantity was good. Our starters were ‘Chicken Lat Me Kai’ & ‘Crispy Chicken’. Both starters tasted nice but nothing special to write about.
For main course we decided to have ‘Bang Bang Chicken’, ‘Devils Chicken’, ‘Mix Cantonese Noodles’ & ‘Mix Sehezwan Noodles’ along with ‘Fresh Lime Soda’. Bang Bang Chicken was quite good, had nice flavours and decent combination of spices but there was nothing to bang my taste buds. Devils Chicken was bit more spicy and tangy and I found it more interesting, fresh chicken pieces were soft and smooth. Both Sehezwan & Cantonese Noodles were well cooked and we really enjoyed it. Fresh Lime Soda went well with all these spicy dishes. Sadly they serve only ice creams as desserts; we had ‘Butterscotch ice cream’. If you are strict in budget and near Topsia area, this place will be ideal for you.

Our joint for lunch during road trip to Bankura. Due to huge rush and unavailability of AC lounge opted for AC private dining chamber. Utensils and cutleries served to us had smell of fish. Yack!! Not cleaned properly.
Ordered Chicken Methi Malai and Chicken Tikka Masala with Laccha Partha. They charged us INR 100 extra for using private dining chamber.
Toilets are filthy, parking is huge.
