Fun road to drive with a length of 65 kilometer. Can't miss it because the signs are very clear. We drove from Baden-Baden to Freudenstadt but of course you can also drive it the other way around. Be aware there a lot of motorbikes on the road and sometimes trail hogs. There are several sightseeing spots, landmarks, lakes or waterfalls to stop or make a walk. Best stop points are the geroldsau waterfalls and the Mummelsee. We also tried to reach the Bühlerhöhe castle but couldn't find it. The road is perfectly maintained.

Sankenbachwasserfalle

From the Elbachsee platform we wanted to enjoy more of the local Black Forest. We checked the walking trials (which are really good highlighted) and made the choice to walk from there to the Sankenbach waterfalls and the lake not far from it. Let's be clear it is no easy walk especially because we also had to walk the same way back (3,5 kilometers one way). First part was easy and flat through the forest but then there was a steep decent to the waterfalls (sometimes slippery). Because of the draught the waterfall was not big but the surrounding and the thick forest are magnificent. From the waterfall another decent (but not so long this time) to the lake. Around the lake is a well maintained gravel road also suitable for bikes. At one side of the lake is a kind of small beach and several benches. The view from the lake over the Black Forest surroundings and hills is beautiful. I also took a dive in the lake, temperature was perfect. Of course we had to take the same way back to Elbachsee platform (around 3,5 kilometres) and now it was climb after climb. Not easy but worth it. You can also enter the lake by bike and foot from Baiersbronn side. Much more easy and shorter but of course not the same and beautiful experience.
