Bad Bentheim ( (help·info)) is a town in Lower Saxony, Germany in the district of Grafschaft Bentheim on the borders of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Netherlands roughly 15 km south of Nordhorn and 20 km northeast of Enschede. It is also a state-recognized thermal brine and sulphur spa town, hence the designation Bad (“Bath”). Also to be found in Bad Bentheim is the castle Burg Bentheim, the town’s emblem. Its residents are commonly known as “Badman Bentheimers”.

Immer ein Erlebnis Jedes Jahr aufs Neue begeistern die zahlreichen ehrenamtlich tätigen Mitglieder der Freilichtbühne tausende Zuschauer mit Ihrem Amateur Freiluft Schauspiel. Ein kleiner See, eine urige Kulisse, Felsen aus dem „Bentheimer Gold“ – dem Sandstein und seit dem Jahr 2012 ein Dach, welches den halben Zuschauerraum regenfest überspannt – das zeichnet den Charme unserer Freilichtbühne aus. Das Programm ist wie jedes Jahr familienfreundlich gestaltet. Dieses Jahr präsentieren wir „Das Wirtshaus im Spessart“ und „Jim Knopf – Das Musical“. Highlight ist seit einigen Jahren die Nacht der Lichter. An diesem Abend verwandelt sich die Freilichtbühne in ein Meer aus tausenden Feuern, Fackeln, Lichtern und Feuerwerk

We found this place by a pure chance, and we felt so lucky! The castle is beautiful and well-preserved, and it has amazing views on the town and the park. It is also suitable to visit with children. The entrance fee is about 5 euros per person which is cheap comparing to other, more well-known castles. There are also less visitors there so it would be a perfect place for someone who loves history/architecture and can't stand crowds. There are also plenty of nice cafes nearby, and the town itself is marvelous. I would definitely recommend it as a day trip, and I am going to visit there again!
