Desert Hills Ranch

Reviewed By renee560 - Merritt, Canada

My husband and I went to buy plants. There was a great variety of everything from trees to bedding plants, hanging baskets, a variety of succulents. The greenhouse was full and outside there were trees and plants everywhere. The staff was extremely helpful too. There is a petting zoo for all ages. It had rained and was very muddy, just wear appropriate footwear if it has rained. We will probably go back for more. Highly recommend this for a family outing.

Heritage Place Park

As we continued our geocaching vacation, we headed to Ashcroft, British Columbia. Once there, we discovered that our goal was located in Heritage Park. As we strolled through this unique area, we enjoyed it's various features. After seeing a cabin that sported a sod roof, a functioning waterwheel caught our interest. As it moved, we imagined how it made life a little easier for settlers. We followed a trail dotted with benches and several picnic areas for park visitors. An old-fashioned red caboose sat on real railway tracks. Several mosaic murals depicted several different scenes including Ashroft's Japanese sister city, Bifuka. There was also a transportation mural. Copper mining artifacts are located in the Park as well as a lovely gazebo containing shade trees, flowers and shrubs.

Great place, really nice displays and very educational. There was a really good amount if information and artefacts detailingbthe history of Ashcroft but also about the way First Nations were impacted and affected by European settlers.

As we continued our visit of Ashcroft, our next stop a the Old Firehall. After we found the geocache we were looking for, we explored the exterior of red Firehall near one of Ashcroft's bridges. I was awed by its 25 foot tower and learned this structure was used to dry the hoses after the fighting a fire. We also had a great view of the Thompson River. In addition, we saw a mosaic that was done to honor Canada's 150th birthday.
