This is a "must see" when visiting Andong, South Korea. The village is a visit into Korea's past and lets you appreciate the simple, yet interesting, lifestyle in the interior of the country. This UNESCO site will allow you to relax while enjoying sites, food, drink, and fun! TIP: try the local apples, chicken, and soju (Korean alcohol) with their own flavors!

Dosan seowon (seowon means college/academy for secondary education) is considered the intellectual home of Korean confucianism. The seowon consists of multiple buildings including lecture halls, dormitories and Libraries (2 for paper books, 1 for wooden printing boards) and other subsidiary buildings. It is quite beautiful to look at ; you can even sit at the lecture hall and relax/meditate. The complex appears on the back of old Korean w1000 bill and the pavilion across the river appears on the renewed w1000 bill.

Good to visit if you have not much planning.
I arrived at andong in the late afternoon. So it's recommended by the staff of the guesthouse to take a 10-min bus travel to this place.
Quite interesting and can see scenic river view.
There are many nice cafes nearby too.
One drawback, I waited the bus for very long time as it is not on time.

It covers world wide countries and different culture. But the best is the local mask. It is right before you entering the village, but you need to spare more time for this museum, so If you can plan your stay inside of Hahoe village, you can have a really good experience.

We hiked here from Hahoe Village and it was well worth it. A wonderful gem we stumbled onto after our long hike and had the place to ourselves. We took it all in and meditated in this wonderful quiet place sitting on the balcony areas looking over the Valleys. We also planned on the transportation by public bus from the Monastery to Andong itself to enjoy a late lunch. Again in this area plan your hikes and transportation, given it is limited. Believe it or not there is a tourist office just down the road and across from the bus stop. While the tourist office did not speak english, she offered us hot coffee and cookies while we waiting for our bus --what a wonderful treat after our hike and during our wait to get to Andong.

entrance fee: 3000 won. this traditional and village may represnt what has been korea in the past. all the buildings are very well kept but there is somehting missing... i guess that they should organize some english speaking tour, maybe there are but we couldnt manage to find any. it could be better presented in order to understand more this amazing place

We only visited here because we happened to be staying at Bongjeongsagil 200 Guesthouse just down the road. It was really great though, a really old (the oldest wooden building in Korea) and magnificent temple in an incredibly peaceful part of nature. We saw two wild deer, a woodpecker and a number of other birds here during our short visit. A couple of other people appeared to be there solely for the bird watching.

It's accessible to the Rock-carved Buddha by bus from Andong Station. Take bus 54, oppsite Andong station, for 15 minutes. Just collect a bus schedule from the Tourist Infomation next to Andong station. If you are unsure where to alight, just ask the driver. You will see a temple. The Buddha cliff is on the left side of the temple. It's actually a small park with benches, where you can admire the Buddha on the cliff.

Unlike the next door Andong Village with old traditional houses, the Andong Folk Museum requires buying an inexpensive ticket. There is no good guide in English available but there is enough explanation next to each display with some information in English allowing non-Koreans to learn and orient themselves in the exhibits. The museum presents traditional Korean customs, beliefs and rituals from birth to death. It is quite informative but consists only of two floors. There is also a section with temporary exhibition. There is a large parking lot next to the museum and food is available nearby.

This unique seven-story brick pagoda is a wonderful relic from early Korea. However, for most visitors the site is too far out of the way, and there is only 1 thing to see. My visit took all of 15 minutes. It only took that long because of the difficulty of photographing the pagoda because of its location next to a wall.
The brick pagoda at Sinsedong-dong is exceptional and rare, but the site is not really an attraction. If your in Andong, and you have some free time, take a local bus or taxi to see this beautiful pagoda. It is somewhat far, and may cost you quite a bit by taxi. A fantastic site for history enthusiasts.
