Top 10 Things to do in Amager, Zealand

January 20, 2022 Dorsey Hagwood

Copenhagen was once a Viking fishing settlement, and you can still find traces of the Norse explorers here. Visit reconstructed villages, the remains of a 1,000-year-old castle, and museums dedicated to the notorious raiders. Copenhagen also features a blend of modern architecture and historical artifacts such as the Round Tower observatory – a wonderful example of 17th-century architecture. Art galleries, narrow streets, canals, parks, and Baroque churches round out the city’s cultural attractions.

Islands Brygge

Reviewed By christinasY7317IB - Copenhagen, Denmark

Islands Brygge is the hip place in Copenhagen - well at least on a sunny, hot day. It is where locals go to sunbathe, swim, eat, play volleyball etc. The water is clean and it is safe to jump in. There are cool urban restaurants hidden in the alleys.... u just have to know how to find them! Visit "the Fat Pike" or "Il Buco" for dinner. Or simply bring a blanket and a picnic and eat on the grass as many of the locals. In the winter time it is much more quiet - but still worth a visit, Enjoy!

Amager Strandpark

Reviewed By Akaasha - Amsterdam, The Netherlands

First of all let me say that this is a place you want to go when it is not freezing and not raining outside. It is the beach and the best part of the whole area is that it is an amazingly relaxed outdoor experience. I will however add just a little word of caution that when we visited it was not overly crowded and I would not know how busy and packed it gets in summer when temperatures reach the 20's. We cycled the area of Amgerstrand, stopping at various points to admire the view, relax and take in the sea, chill and watch the people pass and just spend a relaxed day out. It was a wonderful experience which, for me, allowed my mind to destress and get back into a normal state. I think a walk/ ride along the sea or ocean can always do this. The cycling was easy, the paths are wide enough for walkers, and cyclists and other forms of transport such as roller skaters, etc. Plenty of places to stop and park your bike as well as well spaced watering holes with coffee and goodies. And public toilets as well. If you are coming by car there seemed to be plenty of parking spaces (though I am not sure if it was paid or not) and public transport would be the Amagerstrand Metro stop for the closest. The whole area is well maintained and a fantastic place to spend a half day or a full day with a picnic if the weather is nice. Plenty of places to do this either on the dunes or on the grassy areas. Lots of promenades to walk along as well if you are in the mood for a leisurely stroll. On the whole a wonderful place, which took me by surprise as for some reason I was not expecting it to be that good!
