Chiesa di S. Giovanni Battista del Gonfalone

Reviewed By Muccu - Island of Malta, Malta

The church is not as well known as teh cathedral and the sanctuary of Santa Rosa but contains one o the most beautiful and ingeniously painted flat ceilings that looks like a vault besides possessing and incredible painting with tow paintings one on either side of the same canvas which, besides the extensive use of lapis lazuli is still apparently a mystery of how it was managed . But the false perspectives of the ceiling are simply incredible . The church is managed by the Confraternity of St John the Baptist who are restoring it and who only ask for a donation for a explanation and guide around the church's treasures. Certainly a must for any art lover

Located in the beautiful and peaceful town of Tarquinia this museum houses incredible examples of the ancient Etruscan people. The workmanship of the stone masons on the sarcophagi is truly amazing.....the workmanship on the pottery vessels represents a very high level or skill. While visiting this facility take some time to walk up the cobbled street and see the the old town center and fountain.

I have traveled worldwide for all my life, I cannot recall a city/town with this unique setting of piazza with a church and a fountain. Each of these fountains is unique telling the history of the town, quite a unique architectural style as well. There are enough to fill books just about the Viterbo’s fountains!

First visit to Bolsena and we enjoyed every minute of our one week stay! Nice beach on the lakeshore, food and beverages all around at very decent prices. Hotels right on the boardwalk. Weather was fantastic in July. Festivities all week through. We went sailing on the lake, made two trips nearby (orvieto and bagnoregio) and went to the weekly market in bolsena. All great experiences and fun. Would recommend to anyone with kids, small and teens.

Our guide was Riccardo, and the tour was in Italian. We totally recommend this tour, beside the amazing experience of going underground and walking through the ancient aqueduct, it was a simple, yet professional and informed, introduction to the history of Orte and the region. Riccardo is super nice and a very skilled guide. We had a great time and strongly recommend this to anyone visiting the region.
