A really must do. Road is narrow with lots of curves and with very nice views on the Garda lake. It is a one way street (as of this year from 10 am till 17 pm) when you climb, so normally you cannot have oncoming cars. (otherwise there are traffic lights). To get back you simply follow in the little village of Pieve at the round about the indications for Voltin, Vesio, follow that road untill you see a sign Limone to the right. So you will get back on the road around the lake.

We visited Onepio to do the gold wine tasting which was excellent and great value for money. Most importantly we tasted a number of great wines - we were allowed to pick which ones we wanted to taste from a selection so it can be tailored to personal preferences. We had some lovely local cheeses and other snacks to accompany also. Our hostess was really knowledgable taking us through each wine and how its grown and produced. She struck a great balance between talking to us and giving us time to just enjoy the wine. We stayed for a drink after in the sunshine and ordered a few bottles to be sent home also. Very glad we visited.

We had a really lovely afternoon at the vineyard. Elisa was so nice and welcoming, and really passionate about their family business, which was great to see. The wine was all lovely and the cheeses, breads and biscuits were a fantastic accompaniment. No pressure to buy any wine after the tour, but we did anyway as it was delicious!! We even stayed and drank another bottle before we left as it was such a nice setting! Would definitely recommend the tour and tasting, and very easy to cycle to the vineyard from Sirmione. Next time maybe we’ll try the cooking course as well :)

Montonale

Lugana, a growing area of unexpected quality. Thirty hectares of vineyards caressed by the winds of Lake Garda. Four generations with a passionate commitment to their land, their vines, and their wines. This is the portrait of Montonale and the dream of three brothers, Claudio, Roberto and Valentino Girelli. You can purchase at our wine shop or book tours with tastings.

Great stay in Cantina Montonale for tasting session. After the visit of wine yards and production site, we enjoyed the Lugana wines “Montunal” and “Orestilla” from different years. Montunal is a great Lugana, with long longevity potential. Orestilla is an outstanding Lugana, full body and great taste, with an huge ageing potential, if you are able to avoid to drink it :-)

As much as this archeological site is interesting as such, it boasts the lake views to come there for! It is easy to spend several hours here, even half a day if the weather is nice. The museum is surrounded by meadows with old olive trees, so you will always find some shade. Bringing your own lunch and enjoy it sinking in the lake views could be a good idea!
