The Citadelle

Reviewed By ArmyRangeratMIT - Wayne, United States

Up on the north side of the country in Cap Haitien lies the greatest architecture feat in the country- the immense Citadelle fortress built by the French to protect the area.. with no guard rails or fences, you can easily fall 2000 feet to your death if you lean too far over the edge so be careful! It takes a good healthy walk up the switchback path, and the locals have a way of cutting straight up to set up vendor tables when they hear people are coming and see vehicles approaching. Amazing! A couple thousand men lost their lives erecting the unfinished structure up on top of the highest peak, and you can see for miles! Afterwards head to Cormier Plage beach or Labadie resort up in the coast!

This is a really cool place - they give you a tour of the facilities where the workers are making crafts. The work all supports single parents so that they don’t have to give their kids up for adoption. Beautiful pottery, paper beads, stuffed animals and more. Social entrepreneurship at its best! Did all of our souvenir shopping here.

Labadee

An area located in northern Haiti that is famous for its striking natural beauty and great beaches.

Reviewed By OBXMom4 - Greenville, United States

We stopped here on our Royal Caribbean cruise on Oasis of the Seas in January 2019. I really had planned so much for our other 2 ports that we used this day as a beach day and it was perfect! Great weather, water temps were great too! (I was worried that in January that it would be cool) We did end up renting 2 floating mats once in the Columbus Cove area and just chilled in the water. No need to pay for more activities on this island in my opinion! Columbus Cove was the perfect spot to chill under the palm trees, play in the water and get a great view of the ship as well. We did end up walking to the CC beach area and it was a beautiful walk, not too long for us. Waiting for the trolley just took too long. The other side of the island it was very windy and the water was super rough, but the side we were on was perfect!
