Pidurangala is a massive rock formation located a few kilometers north of Sigiriya in Sri Lanka. It has an interesting history closely related to that of the Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Climbing to the top of Pidurangala Rock is more strenuous than climbing Sigiriya. If you are fit and adventurous it is a climb worth making. It will take you about two hours. There is far less to see on this site than Sigiriya

This place is amazing, It is a 30 mins hike, some areas we had to climb rocks, it is not than hard but it is pretty fun, We enter thought a Buddhist temple area, so shoulders, knees should be covered, they provide a silk if you need it. The small temple is nice, with a very strong energy and beautiful painting in the rock wall. On the hiking there are many trees, kind of jungle, another reclining Buddha is close to the top, after the final and more challenging climb, there is an amazing view waiting for you, the impressive Lion rock is there. After you can go a little bit more up and have 360 view, very impressive. People go there for Sunrise and Sunset I bet would be stunning. Note: drones are not allowed.

Only the short trees, shrubs and grass found here as there are lots of seasonal wind blows across this plane. This plane extends about 10 hectares. Endemic fauna and flora are found here.

Its 4 hrs (134km) away from Colombo via Awissawella Kithulgala rd. We did not take the Sripada turn near 43rd km post, as condition of that road is not supposed to be good. We took the Sripada rurn after arround 5km from Ginigathhena. We went there in February which is dry month so there was no leaches. Waterfall may not at its fullest due to dry season but safe. There are two directions to the waterfall, one to the top of the fall and other one to the bottom of the fall. We didn't go to top of the fall as we had kids and though its not safe. We went to the bottom of the fall. For that we had to climbdown arround 1.5km. There are cement steps up to the bottom. But climbing up was bit tiring. (Altogether I did bit more than 4600 foot steps both the ways down and up) Before climbing down better get the information about water level from the shop owners nearby as if dam opens water level can be riseup & become dangerous. We actually left Colombo in the morning arround 5.30 am and reached there arround 9.30 -10 am for the breackfast. We had a morning picnic there. Attraction time depends on how fast people can climb down and up and how much time they want to spend there.

Most prefer to do the 3 hour hike at night up the longest staircase in the world,according to Arthur C Clarke.The path is paved and perfectly maintained so even a senior citizen wouldn't find too much difficulty in reaching the summit with some help. If the climb begins at 10 pm its perfectly possible to find few hours of sleep at the top before the sunrise .Wonder is not just in the sunrise .,its on the opposite side when the perfectly conical shadow of the sacred mountain spreads across the western mountains and valleys.for about few minutes. Climb down is easier with 'base camp' attainable in under 2 hours. A morning ascent is another option which is ideal for scenery sake.Best to begin the trek as early as possible so you would find decent solitude along much of the way until the pilgrims who climbed the night before start to appear out of the mist after 9 in the morning. Visibility up top could be shrouded in mist in most of the months so patience is needed to take a peek at the vista between clouds banks which roll in. The most exhilarating of the climbs would be the attempts done in off season ,between May and December ,much of which falling under the rainy season in the peak wilderness .This climb requires some planning as the rains in better part of the day may bring in cascades all along the route ,as well as down the staircase now turned in to a veritable water slide. Strategy should be to be clear of the mountain before 5 pm as the denizens of the forest would venture out by then.Summit would be occupied by few monks who would depend on weekly supplies from the town below .You may meet the post man who climbs the mountain each day and that would be the only human soul along the route unless there happen to be few others crazy as you. shoes need strong traction /water abundant in many creeks / warm drink in a flask /plenty carb/ biscuits /chocolates./Camera would be a burden unless well protected /clothes ready for a decent dunking /stick to the path ,don't venture out .Keep phone contact with the base in case .Best to report to police station before the climb and make sure to tell them when you come back. Difficulty level in an off season climb is high due to the high possibility of slipping on the concrete steps.

We did a jeep safari tour as part of our Sri Lankan tour and we had the most fantastic day we say hundreds of elephants in their natural environment just doing what elephants do, there were several herds and we also saw some babies that were only a week or so old, we also saw water buffalo, and pelicans, deer and lots of other birds. It was a spectacular afternoon made all the better by our guides.

Diyaluma situate beside Beragala Wellawaya rode 6Km away from Koslanda. If you need to use, public transport also possible to reach this place. Once you reach there, you can climb up few steps up if water level is law. There is a pool up there. But be careful to bath there, better not to. It's sleapery also.

Beauty of Uva.. most beautiful waterfall in sri lanka..located about 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) from Badulla town. The waterfall, which is 64 metres (210 ft) high gets its name from the smoky dew drops spray, (Dun in sinhala means mist or smoke) which surrounds the area at the foot of the waterfall. It's also known as Bridal fall as the shape of the waterfall reflect a bridal veil. The water fall is created by the river called Badulu Oya which goes through the Badulla town.

Kaudulla or Minneriya is the obvious question when one is in Sigiriya area. Guides and jeep drivers decide on know positions of elephant herds and water level in the area. Our Jeep safari suggested Kaudulla, so off we went. We did have a few sighting of peacocks, deer, birds, monitor lizards, but these parks are for the majestic Asian elephant the largest mammal on land. After a bumpy ride through the greens we came across a vast expanse of grassland and so many elephants. There were everywhere, near us, ahead of us & everywhere we could see. This was a large gathering of approx 350 wild elephants. Our driver said that there are more baby elephants this year than last. This is the best place in Sri Lanka to see wild elephants in such a large number. Park ticket costed us LKR 14800 for a group of 6 and jeep charges were LKR7500

Ella rock roughly takes you 1.5 hours to climb. If you're fit and healthy it can be climbed in a shorter time. It really is a beautiful hike, taking you through long grass, bridges, beautiful forests. There are many routes to hike, and you can get guides who will take you as well. The views once you reach the top are excellent. Definitely a must do when you reach Ella!
