Mellow Velos is a fantastic bike shop in Paraza, France (Languedoc region). Co-owner Sandra (British and English-speaking) mapped out a beautiful 29-kilometer ride for us through vineyards and several charming villages and along the Canal du Midi. Because of the 90+ degree heat and at Sandra’s recommendation, we rented electric bikes, which, despite our initial skepticism, were fabulous and made the trip much more enjoyable. (For serious cyclists, rest assured that you can get the same workout from electric bikes as from a regular bike, and if you’re in a group with different levels of fitness and experience, it evens out the differences.) Mellow Velos (in Paraza; there are several locations) has a large inventory of good bikes, is careful about providing you with a properly fitted/sized bike, and even supplies with you water, a saddle bag and a front pouch, and a repair kit. Can’t recommend Mellow Velos in Paraza enough!

It’s a short trek to the rocky top but it totally pays off. There are lots of the castle ruins to explore plus 360 gorgeous views in several spots. Take water and a snack. It was really windy at the top so not the best for a full on picnic. There is an entrance fee, but we thought it was worth it.
