Set in a former sardine processing factory, the museum is divided into two areas. One half tells the history of Portimao from prehistory to modern times. The other half explains the processes involved in the sardine canning industry, using the actual equipment and location where it all happened. English captions throughout, and good use of video to make production stages clear. Also houses temporary display space, and good cafe/restaurant. Check out the joint ticket arrangements with other local historical sites, and note that there is free entrance on Sundays.

The Lagos Ciência Viva Science Centre is a place for science, fun and hands-on learning. Small but still amazing and truly interactive. Staff are just so helpful and knowledgeable with perfect English and no doubt other languages. Can actually hold a variety of sea creatures. Dinosaur side exhibition has half dozen full scale animatronic beasts. Well worth a visit along with old church and square near by.

Having followed our nose into the interior of the Algarve and stopping here only for a coffee break we were amazed and delighted to stumble on the lovely museum. Open most days (Main house closed between 1&2) it is a beautiful building, well cared for and welcoming. Free entry, small shop with local produce, the garden has some artisans and a bar, Lois and a lovely shaded garden. Well worth a visit.

This is impressive, well organized and planned. On 3 levels that progress in time from the Iron Age (6th Century to today). The well was only discovered in 1990. I was pleasantly surprised and not bored, well done!
