Ritsurin Garden

Ritsurin Garden is a superb cultural asset that conveys the characteristics of the daimyo strolling gardens that were typically seen in the 17th and 18th century. A daimyo strolling garden is a type of traditional Japanese garden in which ponds and hills are expertly constructed over a vast tract of land, and you can enjoy the garden's space as you leisurely walk around inside.

This garden is full of beautiful detail. The trees are manicured immaculately and the landscaping of each view is exquisite. Even though we visited in early November and the autumn colours weren't yet fully showing the garden still looked fantastic.

Former Konpira Old Theater Kanamaruza

Very helpful, informative, friendly and available guide/receptionist in English (and other languages). We wish we could attend a performance there someday in April. Very worth the visit.

Kotohira-gu Shrine

Reviewed By RYOKOSURU - Madrid, Spain

Absolutely amazing experience, the awesome shrine is well worth the effort to go all the way up the 785 stone steps to the top. The view is wonderful and the many stone lanterns and small shrines along the path create a mystic atmosphere.

Zentsu-ji Temple

Reviewed By MarkGroenewold - Takamatsu, Japan

Those who are deeply connected to the Buddhist Pilgrimage of Shikoku will tell you that this is one of three critical places to visit to have a "full pilgrim (ohenro) experience". The other two are Touji (Kyoto--very very cool) and Mt. Kona (also unbelievable). This is the birthplace of Kukai, also called reverently, "Kobo Daishi". It is from here that Kukai began his life as a disciple of Buddhism. This is the original spring well. The grounds are expansive and beautiful. The pagoda is magnificent and the gates and temple hall are inspiring. If you dare, there is an underground passage that must be walked in complete darkness. If one is cruel or full of malice, they may be trapped beneath. Somehow on the last visit I got through okay. I'm sure you'll be fine. Various statues are around the edges of the grounds and there are several buildings for you to check out and explore. Combined with Konpira this makes an excellent day!

Art House Project

Reviewed By MarkGroenewold - Takamatsu, Japan

The Art House Project is really a great attraction for the island and highly recommended for anyone wanting to wander around a bit and simply enjoy art for art’s sake. No need to concern yourself with art critics who take themselves too seriously. This is refreshing, fun, varied, and a great treasure hunt. Don't let anyone steal your pleasure and tell you it isn't "art worthy". The Minamidera was so cool.... as an experience, and being "in the art", it is a must see, even if you have to wait a little to get inside. You won't forget it, or regret it.
