We started from Ambleside and made a steep ascent from the High Street. Made a detour to see the waterfalls first, then onto to the proper climb. Lots of shaded areas, until we got to the gate which had the stone steps begin the mammoth climb all the way to Wansfell Pike. Do-able continuously (for us as reasonable fit people exercising 4-5x/week), but even we had to stop for 10s twice, so it is tough going up. But once reaching the summit, you'll be rewarded with gorgeous stunning views of Lake Windemere, the town of Ambleside, and the panoramic view of everywhere else! We then headed towards Troutbeck tongue, but got lost halfway through, so took an alternatively route towards Troutbeck, stopped in at the Mortal Man pub (dog-friendly) for a cold pint, then continued on for another 5 km, before reaching back our BnB, via the Stagshaw gardens in the middle of nowhere! 17.8km, our feet sure felt it!

Short sharp upward walk can be avoided by parking on the Skiddaw route. However, the views over the north Lakes is something to behold.

Had a lovely couple of hours walking Danny & Jasper around the Lingholm estate, our guide Natasha was very knowledgeable and super friendly, the alpacas were delightful, great weather, gorgeous scenery and beautifully kept grounds, we also booked the afternoon tea which was taken in the conservatory with a view of the walled garden and the lake, a perfect afternoon in a perfect location.

This truely is the most peaceful spot in Keswick and I have the privilege to have a painting on my wall at home. So scenic overlooking CATBELLS a great fell to climb to see all of the surrounding area including SKIDDAW. A must see location and the walk from Keswick is a delight.

View the River Lune from the ancient Devils Bridge, check out the Devils hand print in the stone of the bridge and walk along the River Lune into the market town of Kirkby Lonsdale. Great meeting place for bikers and walkers

Helm crag woods is situated on the banks of Helm crag en-route to the summit. Access is non restricted via The Lancrigg. Epic English woodland with meandering paths . A favourite place of William Wordsworth . There is a Dorothy Wordsworth memorial approximately half way up The walk on the upper path. A lot of the large trees were planted by Richardson the arctic explorer. We are currently raising funds to begin clearing some of the large monolithic trees that have fallen and re establish the cascading water courses that terrace into some very idyllic ponds.

Lovely walk through Lancrigg woods today at the start and end of our ascent of Helm Crag. The path is clear with the fallen autumn leaves giving a lovely look, aroma and softness under foot. We saw a couple of robins and on the way back surprised a small herd of Herdwick sheep. A huge fallen tree trunk demonstrated the age and immensity of the woodland. I can't imagine the number of species it must support.
