Yakuriji Temple

A gem of a Temple (& Shrine) off the beaten track near Takamatsu in Kagawa. Accessible via the Kotoden Electric Railway its well worth a visit for it's giant Getas and its syncretic Temple/Shrine complex. When I visited I was the only westerner and most of the visitors were pilgrims doing the trail around Shikoku. It's approached via a very cute Cable Car with some little trains made to look like mini Shinkansen... the kids will love that. High in the mountians amid nature its a very impressive and little known site.

Yashima-ji Temple

Reviewed By MartinoTentino

We decided on a day between art islands we would go to see the 84 temple on the route of 88. Quick train ride, then we met a local who directed us to the start of the climb up. I think we took the wrong path and soone we were on an almost vertical dirt track through the jungle. Met several old japanese couples coming down so we knew we were not fully lost. Got to the top eventually, to discover an abandoned cable car station. How cool. Then walked down the road to the temple. Interesting statues, shrines, a really good museum, an abandoned hotel!, great views. Not crowded and a really peaceful vibe. Lucky find as we had not done much research.
