Very cheap- our meal cost us 1600K for two- but the curries weren't stand out. It's easy to find because since being recommended in the lonely planet everyone points tourists in its direction.

Got a prawn/shrimp dish, thinking "the river AND the ocean are right there, the seafood must be great!" I was too optimistic: the shrimp were the little store-bought kind about the size of an American nickel.
Not that clean, but I've seen worse in this country.
Other food was just on the good side of "ok," or, "nice." I'm quoting other people's opinions.
I wish their food was better. That way I you could feel good about giving money to the restaurant that purportedly does some sort of charity work for the elderly.

They have really good Asian dishes (just not the pad Thai!) and excellent coffee and fresh juice. It's a shame that they don't have breakfast with coffee that good. They could make a killing if they just offered fried eggs and toast! We were disappointed in the morning, but their watercress and garlic made up for it at dinner!

Had the fried chicken and vegetables, thought can't go wrong with that. There was hardly any chicken and what there was was most grizzle but what was worse was the sauce, tasted like liver, I could not eat it, so eventually I got the mangeress over, she could not speak English but she sent it away, waiter then came over and said you can order something else, to be honest I did not feel like anything on the menu and he kept pushing to try the expensive dishes. In the end I had sour and sour chicken which I admit was much better than the first choice. Then on the bill there was tourist tax, first time I had seen that on my trip after 2 weeks. So my worst meal in Myanmar, most expensive and tourist tax as well. My advise avoid and try the more local places or night market.

Coffee Love

At last some competition for My City Café for those looking for Western comfort food. They do pizza, sandwiches and buns. It takes 30 minutes for a freshly prepared pizza if they don't have any at the counter. There is a wide range of good quality coffees. The place has only been open since late September: it is modern and has tables that you can actually get your legs under, which is a rarity in Mawlamyine. Comfortable chairs as well. The owner speaks English. Upstairs there is a karaoke lounge for strangling the occasional cat.

We had a nice dinner at the Cinderella restaurant. They have a large menu with a lot of choice between Asian and Western food. Food was good, not excellent.
Staff enjoyed working there practicing English. They had a lot of fun (looked a bit weird from time to time).

We only went to Olala cafe for drinks as my mum was craving a decent coffee. She ordered a cappuccino which she found dreadful and she ended up not drinking it.
I ordered a dragon fruit juice as they hardly had any fresh juices and it did not taste great. The glass was also very dirty with a big stash a black dirt in one of the glass's cavities behind the handle (inside the glass).
I wouldn't recommend it overall but we might have been unlucky.

Compared to normal street fair this is a bit of a treat, but don't expect the cake to taste like it looks. Very dry and lacking sugar.
The service can be a bit rude or in your face.
The yogurt is nice but trying to get it without the ice cab be challenging.

I greatly support their Mission and having Mon food and textiles available is a nice idea! But our wait was long, the food didn't seem too special, and there were lots of flies! One plus was cheap prices, at least. Wishing them luck to turn this into a really stellar place, but not there yet.
