December 17, 2017 Chanda Heide

Argentina's top beach resort town, Mar del Plata boasts 10 miles of sandy beaches, from family-oriented La Perla in the north to very popular Bristol in the center and sophisticated Faro in the south. Regardless of the beach, expect very dense crowds, particularly in the summer months. Once an elite enclave, it now attracts visitors of all budgets.

This place is the place to go for seafood. It gets pretty busy so booking is probably wise. Went there with about 40 people and had a blast

Definitely a very special place, small menu, also a 5-course tasting menu, which we experienced last year. This year we opted for the a la carte, quite expensive for MDP, but mostly worth it.
Greeted with complimentary Champagne, much appreciated! Bread was not wonderful, but ok.
Starters and mains beautifully presented, seafood excellent, wonderful risotto or creamy rice as they described it. Desserts were good, nothing special.
All in all, a special place, but needs a bit more polish to get 5 stars.
Staff were efficient, could have been a bit more friendly.

Our last visit was in 2011 and I had left disappointed. We decided to give it another go and Im happy to report that things have improved. The Kitchen is delivering dishes with more balanced seasoning and staff appears to have been trained and new hands hired. Wine list is also quite improved from last visit, with some waiters receiving some wine education. Overall a very good experience, portions are not extra large and relative pricing is also bumped a notch, but overall worth it.

Based on the great reviews in Tripadvisor we decided to give this restaurant a try. It certainly did live up to all the high praises. We were lucky to have made a reservation ahead of time because the restaurant was packed, even on a Monday night. There was a line up to get in when we left at 10 pm. The clientele was primarily Spanish speaking. There was only one waiter who speaks English and luckily (perhaps naturally) we got him. He was really good and talked us out of ordering too much food because the portions were big. Thank goodness we listened because we were stuffed at the end of the meal. Right from the get go, the warm and fresh dinner rolls were welcoming. Warm rolls tend to be hard to come by in Argentine restaurants, based on our experience. We ordered the arroz con mariscos and the cazuela with prawns, mussels and mushrooms in an au gratin cream sauce. Both were great but it was the cazuela that we felt was exceptional. Just the right balance of cheese and creamy taste. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. Thanks also to Cristian, our waiter's superb service.

El Palacio del Bife

Reviewed By FernandaMaria - Brazil

Palacio del Bife lives up to its name: the steak is delicious! Juicy, tender, perfectly seasoned and cooked -- and complemented by crispy Argentinian fries.
Other options that we tasted were also excellent: salmon with spinach sauce; and stuffed pasta.
The atmosphere is pleasant, and the place caters to a local clientele (not touristy). It is family-friendly, but there is no such thing as a "kids menu" (Argentinian kids eat steak as well, I guess!) Service is attentive.

Pontevedra

What an incredible place run by some of the warmest and most genuine people that we met during our time in Argentina. Marcelo and the Pontevedra family welcomed us to a very intimate and lively New Year's Eve. The food (far more than we could eat) was delicious, the service was perfect, and the atmosphere was genuine and celebratory.
After dinner and a midnight champagne toast (the first of MANY to come), Marcelo put on some music and we all danced, drank, sang, hugged, and wished one another "Buen año." It was a wonderful meal with equally wonderful people ... one that we won't forget. Thank you!

We were a party of 7 and we had an amazing dinner. The scalops and the chernia (A kind of bass) can be recomended. The wine list is not big, but has plenty of reasonable options. The cost in USD is low.
