We visited Hikone on a cloudy day, and by the time we wrapped up our visit to Hikone Castle, the rain was coming down. Hinaijidori Hokkoriya proved a perfect spot to duck in for a lunch, with friendly English-speaking staff who seated us at a comfortable table outfitted with electric foot warmers. The udon and oyakodon were both delicious, and all portions of the set lunch meals were quite large.

土曜日の13時半ころに行きましたが、満席で1組待ちでした。
駐車場あり。
鶏白湯が人気のようで、塩味を注文。
ラーメンの具に海藻がのっており、珍しいと思いますので。
白湯のスープは、鶏の出汁がよくでており、福岡の鳥すきのようでした。
珍しいビールもあり、運転なしで訪れたい。

I wanted to try the local Ohmi beef so I booked into this restaurant.
The room was nicely furnished. I selected a fixed menu including a number of beef courses with different methods of preparation.
The dishes on which the meal was served were excellent and the food seasonal and fresh. I had beef sushi (a first for me) tataki style, boiled and grilled steak. They were all tasty and the steak delicious.
There were interesting courses with it. I drank a Hikone sake. At the end I was satisfied that I'd had a good sample of local specialties.
The staff were helpful and had a reasonable command of English.

Originally we stopped by here as part of a trip to see the beautiful Hikone castle. As you can read from my previous review, the traditional Japanese sweets were so good we all rank it as among the best in Japan. I am happy to say the quality has not wavered. It is becoming more and more difficult to find traditional mochi as you will find in these sweets. If you are interested at all in trying traditional Japanese sweets or if you are an experienced connoisseur, you HAVE to make a special effort to visit this location. If it is your first time in the area you will have the added bonus of visiting the spectacular Hikone castle and it's grounds and perhaps going for some delicious sea food easily found in the area afterwards. I can feel the sad day coming when sweets of this quality will not be so easily found, do not miss out on this chance to experience tradition and quality at such a high level and reasonable price.

Pretty much a regular ramen shop. Wait to be seated, someone will take your order. They have their house type or pork ramen. Our waiter spoke English and the menu has English translation and pictures to help. They have beer on tap. Count on around ¥1000 per person plus drinks. Nice size portion.

Located on the atmospheric Yume-Kyobashi Castle Road nearly two blocks from the castle outer moat and on the left side this cute old-style restaurant was a welcome stop when the rain came down after we visited the castle.
We had the set menu at Y2700 so it was a bit expensive but really delicious. We had Omi beef slices with salad, pickles, rice and miso and totally forgot about the rain.
Nice staff and pleasant service.

We were a big crowd of 8, with friends and family, including two small children and three vegetarians. The food was excellent, everybody, including the vegetarians, were very satisfied. Local cold sake, Fuku-no Shizuku, was most flavorful, among the best I have had. The staff was considerate with Seating the whole group together, though it was lunch time and the place was mobbed. they were also patient with those of us who did not speak or read Japanese and needed the menu translated and explained. The ambience was folksy and traditional, the interior decoration very much in accord with the food.

お料理は美味しい。エビチリやエビマヨなど、大海老を使ったお料理はほんとにエビが大きくてプリプリで食べごたえがある。ただ、ランチの時間帯あまりにも手際が悪い。テーブルは空いてるのに全然片付けようとしないし、レジ前で待たされる時間が長すぎる。ランチの時間に行くなら絶対予約した方がいいと思う。

すき焼きを食べました。肉な少ないかと思いましたが、ちょうどの量で納得できました。すべて目の前で料理して下さるので、ゆっくりと楽しめました。ただ、東京の方と一緒で、関西風の薄味を期待したのですが、味が濃く、まさに、しょうゆと砂糖で肉を食している感じで、肉のうまみを引き出す味付けにして欲しいと思いました。ステーキを頼んだほうが良かったのかと残念な気がしました。個室は非常にゆったりとしていて、２時間以上もいてしまいました。店内の内装も満足のいくものでした。
