Burgstuben Residenz

Reviewed By Viatorcoloniae - Cologne

This Michelin star-decorated and Gault Millau praised (17/20 points) restaurant is located in a quiet, rural village and has existed under the same ownership for 27 years - all of which speaks for its quality and renown . Two menus are on offer - either a set or 'Surprise' menu - with guests having the freedom to determine the quantity (up to 7 courses are possible). The restaurant, also known as the St Jacques, is justly but by no means exclusively renowned for its fish and offers a classical, light cuisine in the modern French style with the emphasis on fresh, quality products. It has also established a reputation for an extensive and quality wine cellar - with over 1000 bottles on hand as well as an impressive 'alley' of cooling wine cabinets as one passes from the front of the restaurant to the main dining room. The ambience is pleasing - unfussy and uncluttered with modern, fresh colours - all of which perfectly complement the restaurant's kitchen (also on view from the main dining room) and philosophy. Service is especially welcoming - and combines an easy but unobtrusive friendliness with an impressive food and wine knowledge. All in all, a place that's worth making the effort to visit. (Through partnerships with a couple of local hotels, a shuttle service to and from the bedroom-less restaurant is also available).
Why then not the maximum five points? The weather when we visited permitted dining on the outside Terrace which, although screened off, shares the space with the dustbins from the kitchen - with occasional noise and flies the result. A second minor criticism: we selected the 'Surprise' menu only to find that it contained the same dishes as the set menu. Not a problem as it was delicious but strange nonetheless. Viator Coloniae

After visiting this Greek restaurant at least 25 times a year for the last 15-20 years it's about time to review it ...
The fact that we KEEP revisiting this restaurant and have NEVER had anything other than a good feeling when we walk out has got to put this restaurant among the top that we know.
There is a very varied choice on the menu .. the price is very reasonable, although I must say that the price has risen quite a bit the last few years. If the combination you want isn't on the menu then ask for it, it's available.
The atmosphere, one of the most important things I look for, is very good indeed .. always good friendly service.
It's always advisable to book your table, even on a Monday evening in the winter, in the weekends it's a MUST .. it's a very popular restaurant.
All I can do is recommend this restaurant very highly.

I've been here twice once before and once after the renovation. The restaurant is spacious and has nice new bathrooms and outdoor dining area. Both times our party ordered the menu (front page). Make sure you order a pitcher of red wine and a big bottle of water (food is salty but delicious) It seems like the food never stops coming. First is a salad with a delicious dressing and bread and garlic butter (so good). Then you get ribs and grilled sardines, then you get shrimp, then fish and potato crisp/chip things, then a grilled meats platter with a spicy rice. It was about €20 per person and it is definitely worth it. Nice setting decent service. A good place to just have a nice long dinner with a big group. Served family style. Would not recommend this place for vegetarians. Bit for the carnivores in your life, they will love it. I need to go more often than once a year.

I'm an American who's eaten a few burgers in his day. A German friend took me here and I was really impressed with their burgers. I usually get the "gross/big" sized ones and usually end up regretting it cause it's just too much food. The fries are good, especially with the truffle-mayonnaise sauce. The place is low-key, mostly serve yourself.

Idyllic and surrounded by fragrant Forests, lies the "Waldschanke" just outside the town Susterseel in Selfkant. The restaurant exudes a special charm. Nature and culture lovers, walkers and cyclists, but especially life lovers will find the peace to enjoy the "good life".

We are English speaking and have been to this restaurant over a dozen times in the last 9 months. On every occasion we have had an excellent meal and been warmly welcomed by Sascha and his staff. If you can only speak english, Josip will look after you. Steaks are excellent and the fish dishes superb. Never a bad experience and prices are reasonable. We shall continue going to this restaurant when in Heinsberg.

Went with my wife and two sons. Big restaurant but with different sections you don`t feel it so much. There is a large choice of ready dishes and a good choice of raw food for the grill, even kangaroo, salmon, lamb. The staff are friendly though -typically Chinese- not very personal. The interior is lavish Chinese decor. You pay € 14.50 for all you can eat in the evening. (lunch only half that without the grill!) We have been three times now and travel 25km (further than about 7 other Chinese places) to go to this one.

Vinoteca-Trattoria Und Weinbar

I am an American-Canadian with a large group of Italian friends who live near me in Aachen. They all told me about this gem which is hidden off the beaten path. We drive 30-40 minutes each way to dine here but it is totally worth it.
The food is so good it's hard to believe until you've eaten there yourself. We have had three dinners there, two lunches, 1 wedding celebration (friends of ours), our wedding lunch there (14 friends from 4 countries) and so far there hasn't been 1 person who wasn't delighted with what they were served.
For those who don't delight in authentic Italian food they also have steak from Nebraska and a host of other dishes (no pizza or french fries here, athough when we once had little guests with us they "made" fench fries in the oven for them- very sweet!)
A personal advantage for me is that they are also familiar with food allergies. I have two friends who both have Coeliac disease and I am lactose intolerant and they can cater to almost any dietary need.
I really can't recommend it enough. I do suggest making a reservation if at all possible especially if your going to drive a ways there. They speak at the very least Italian, German and English all fluently!
