Amazing endless swimming pool with jacuzzi seat and always enough sun chairs and tables in the restaurant. The Koh Mak Retreat is truly a place where you can get away from it all.

Reviewed By O6685LXtonybWe arrived for a 3 day stay. They had arranged to pick us up from the ferry but did not turn up. They did pay for the taxi that took us there. Every thing looked fantastic. Very clean. We was showed the room. It looked fantastic. Just like the pictures. Then we noticed was not a tv. They said was a fire once because of a tv. So removed them all. Then noticed no kettel to make drinks. You could only get drinks in main building between 7-20.30h. After unpacking my wife, went for a shower. In both showers (inside and outside showers) were no warm water. This was our final small thing we did not like for a 4* hotel. We checked out and moved on..

You get the kayak and snorkeling equipment for free during your stay. Lovely sea world just outside your bungalow. Can highly recommend to travelers visiting Koh Mak.

Reviewed By Prasanna82Our stay at Koh Mak in itself had been a pleasant experience that needs a travel blog to write about… Of the great experience we had at Koh Mak, our stay at this resort is the center piece of our ‘good times’. From the time we were picked up from the pier, we felt very welcomed. This is not a typical resort that one finds on other tourist locations, with plastic smiles as a part of their Staff SOP’s. This is a place that wants her guests feel at home and be a part of the vibrant island community. The accommodations are large and spacious and ours had a garden view of lush trees. Every morning we woke up to the music of song birds. The discount that their guests enjoys at various activities such as yoga, Muay Thai etc is another big plus! We are already planning to come back soon and stay in this beautiful place again. P.S; the owner and the resort manager were such great hosts. The owner invited us to his private party And we got introduced to some Long time stayers.

Quiet location
Reviewed By sydneysteveAll the staff from reception, restaurant and cleaners were all cheerful and helpful. My delux double seaview room was clean and spacious. I did have a couple of issues following check in. Removal of small leaves from the balcony and the fridge had been allowed to defrost resulting in water in the fridge and out on to the tile flooring but both issues were attended to. Everything worked fine. Being elderly I'm not a big fan of mattresses on raised flooring (harder to get up haha). Breakfast was a minimal selection due to low season and few guests but it was adequate. Comprehensive menu for dinner. No complaints about the food. The pool and grounds are very well maintained. I rented an E-bike (200 baht/24hrs) and was told they are slow (which they are) but I was in no hurry, enjoyed the scenery. If you take their speedboat service you will arrive at their own pier (sea conditions permitting). Otherwise, like me, I took the next speedboat leaving Laem Ngop pier and arrived at Ao Nid pier and they sent a songthaew to collect me at no extra cost. Excellent service. I did use their speedboat service to return to the mainland. Overall, a comfortable experience.

Reviewed By amolayaUnfortunately we couldn't travel during the period we had originally booked due to COVID and travel restrictions, therefore we've asked the hotel for a full refund given the circumstances with the lockdown and high COVID cases and we were not able to travel interstate. We were lucky that another hotel that we had booked on the island were very kind and understanding towards the situation and they provided full refund but sadly Mira Montra did not. Instead they provided us travel vouchers to be used within 30 Nov,2021. I have asked for them to extend the stay until end of Dec and we will book additional nights so we can enjoy the experience. Traveling is still inconvenient for us due work and health priorities hence why we've requested for extension. Sadly again, they've rejected the request and told us to sell our vouchers! It is very disappointing that they do not show empathy towards the situation and can not accommodate to potential guests unlike other hotel chains we've stayed at. We believe that all they want to is make money despite situation where some restrictions are still place. This has been a negative first time experience and encounter with this hotel and very unfortunate that we will never recommend this place to anyone wishing to travel to Koh Mak. There are other hotels on the island that are more empathic towards their guest's situation.

Very Mediocre Resort
Reviewed By TonyJohnTFirst impressions of the resort was a feeling we’d come across an army camp or a council housing estate. All the villas had bare concrete walls and all looked the same (tick-tacky boxes spring to mind). The gardens went someway to break up the monotony but I found the gardens to be not particularly well kempt. There were signs everywhere of the resort looking a bit tired. Rotting planks and a half-filled rancid pond which once would have looked nice just left. The rooms/villas: They were even worse inside than outside. A boring box for a bed-sit with no décor, cheap and nasty lights and absolutely appalling furniture such as cupboards and drawers with no handles. There’s no room service. There’s no phone in the room and if you want the room cleaned you have to go down to the restaurant and leave your key in a box. This means if you want to hang on to your key for any reason, your room isn’t going to get serviced. By far the worst thing about the so-called villa is the bathroom /shower and toilet area. Who ever designed this bit deserves shooting! There’s a set of sliding doors to the washbasin area which also houses the kettle and another sliding door to the shower cubicle all with bare concrete wall I hasten to add. However, what is particularly bizarre is the fact there is NO privacy at all to anyone using the toilet. There’s only a tatty set of shells on string that does not screen anything. This means anyone wishing to use the washbasin or put the kettle on has a full view of anyone on the toilet. If this wasn’t enough, even more bizarre was a rectangular hole in the concrete wall separating the shower and the toilet meaning anyone using the toilet has complete full view of anyone using the shower and vice-versa anyone having a shower can watch someone else on the toilet. Why no obscure glass? Horrible! On top of each concrete block is a roof area with a couple of loungers. Here again, very tatty. There are gaping holes in the grass roof and one of the live switches to the lights up there was in pieces revealing bare live contacts. The food and restaurant: Where to start? Well, for starters the buffet breakfasts are simply appalling. All you get a choice of is stone-cold streaky bacon, French toast, some lukewarm Thai dish in watered down sauce and boiled rice. There’s bread & butter and some fruit and that’s about it; dreadful 2-star rubbish. The evening meals aren’t much better and way overpriced so eat elsewhere whenever possible. On a positive note, most of the staff are polite and helpful. This not good value for money particularly as it’s the most expensive resort on Ao Kao area. I’ve travelled the length and breadth of Thailand and stayed at many of the islands in the area such as Koh Wai, Koh Kood, Koh Chang and Koh Tao and found the accommodations good. I’m also married to a Thai and have a house here, so I’m well versed to be able to comment. White Sands resort is, at best, a 3-star resort. Oh yes, and the sand is NOT white, it’s yellow.

Reviewed By XariniWe booked a black moon villa for 3 nights as part of our honeymoon and before attending the Wonderfruit Festival. What can I say? First, the location is fabulous, right on a very quiet beach. The resort is modern and stylish but totally in keeping with the surroundings. Jill and the team are incredibly friendly and helpful. However the jewel in the crown is the restaurant! This was my third trip to Thailand and I can honestly say the food at Little Moon Villas is absolutely incredible, so much so we ate there three times a day, every day! The only downside was that the bed in the black moon villa wasn’t so comfortable. We loved Little Moon so much that we extended our honeymoon and returned for another 3 nights after the festival. This time we booked a half moon villa and it was worth paying a little extra as the bed was more comfortable. Thank you to Jill and the team for making both stays so special and we wish you continued success and will be back to visit again soon!
