Top 10 Resorts in Chiang Mai, Thailand

May 3, 2023 Jana Sager

You could spend your whole Chiang Mai vacation exploring the famous Night Bazaar. Once you’ve exhausted the art of the cheerful haggle, however, there’s plenty more to explore. The National Museum and Botanic Garden are great places to soak up some local culture and to breathe in the delicate fragrance of Thai orchids. In the city’s center, the remains of ancient walls embrace over 30 temples. Limber travelers can climb 300 stairs to Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep, an ornate Buddhist temple in the hills.

Thanks to the Shangri-La Chiang Mai team for making our stay so comfortable and safe during the 6 nights. This is my first visit to Shangri-La Chiang Mai with my husband and we would say it is truly a "home away from home" experience. Special thanks to the chef at Kad Café for preparing the delicious Khao Soi noodles during our breakfast. The bread and pastry spreads were fantastic. The bread is perfectly moist and tender. The pastries have a good crust, light, airy and flaky. The breakfast buffet selections offer a healthy balance of carbohydrates, fibre and protein. The lounge serves a wide range of delicious spreads during cocktail hour with a variety of dishes, both local and Western delicacies that were simply divine during our 6-day stay. They serve wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages with good cocktails and mocktails for you to usher the great evening. The environment in this hotel was pleasant and welcoming. The room is spacious, adequately lit and equipped with all the amenities one needs. The daily housekeeping and turndown service were always timely. The bed is comfortable and the high-speed WIFI worked perfectly during our virtual meetings. Our memorable experiences at this hotel were made possible by both the management and the service team. All the employees in this hotel embrace Shangri-La values of Respect, Humility, Courtesy, Helpfulness and Sincerity. Keep up the great leadership culture and good work, Guys!!!

The heart of Chiang Mai

Reviewed By Drcloney

I don't even know where to begin. My partner and I came to Chiang Mai after visiting Bangkok and the very first day we were greeted with cooled towels and fresh iced tea, which was a welcome reprieve from the heat. We loved Tamarind village so much that on our first day we extended our stay, to which the staff were so accommodating. Everyone is so incredibly friendly, they truly embody the hospitality of the people of Chiang Mai. Honestly, the staff's English is far beyond that of the 5 star hotels we stayed in within Bangkok. The azure tiled pool makes an exquisite photo op, and don't pass up on Keke's tour of the local shrines, he is absolutely delightful in his humor and knowledge! The spa offers multiple aromatic oils for well appointed massage therapy, and the best part of all is the open commune with nature. Birds, bugs and felines are free to roam around the area and the Ancient Tamarind tree at the soul of the grounds. We have already decided that we will be back, and when we come, it will be to Tamarind village! And if you like insanely spicy, as I do, ask for extra Prikh with your meals!

Amazing Hotel - But Needs Some Minor Touchups

Reviewed By iamrhys

Before the pandemic this hotel cost a fortune to stay at. We'd previously tried to stay here back in 2019 but was out of our budget. Thankfully we were able to stay here this year and get a big discount, with breakfast. The main reason to stay is obviously to stay in the Balinese style (Lanna) rooms. If you want a modern room, then you may as well stay in one of the 100s of other normal hotels in Chiang Mai. We stayed in the Royal Lanna villa and our friends stayed in the Deluxe Lanna overlooking the jungle. Our room was large and clean, located near the swimming pool, which I must say is one of the biggest I've ever experienced in Chiang Mai, you can swim right round! Definitely get some good Instagram shots there. I only gave this hotel a 4 star because given how much time off they've had due to Covid, they should really have touched up the minor issues at the resort. Here's my take; - Our room had a gap between the sala and the front door. Everytime it rained, the porch to our room would flood and our shoes would get wet. We ended up having to bring our shoes inside. - The water pressure in our bath tub was poor. It took nearly 20-30 minutes every time we wanted to use the spa. This was likely due to the tap not being correctly fitted (it was loose) rather than the pressure to the tap. - The fish pond at reception needs a good clean, everytime you'd walk past you'd get a waft of fish, not pleasant. - The aircon in the gym still doesn't work. I read someone else's review from months ago, but sure enough we couldn't turn it on either, fix this! - The hotel generally needs a good clean. Areas inside and outside just looked a bit dreary and a good clean, or paint would bring it up to par. Staff were excellent, breakfast was decent and the other hotel facilities were decent, just needed a bit more love to make it the 5 star hotel it probably once was.
