Started with the duck spring rolls; tasty but over fried making them too hard. Followed with the fish & chips; tasteless fish in a batter which I suspect was kept warm & subsequently lost it's crispness. This was served with a miniscule portion of peas.

The golden Lion pub is run by the most wonderful people. The staff are diverse each with their own style and personalities which the management are keen to let be. There is no right or wrong here, be yourself is the motto! And be nice of course! Nice being as in donât be a dick! You of course are welcome to be moody, outspoken and sarcastic! Itâs the most PUNK ROCK place Iâve visited in that respect. People in the Lion look out for each other. The pub is large and welcomes dogs and other small fury things, ferrets being one! Kids too! Eeewww lol The beer garden is fab and really gets the sun! The beer is cheap or fancy dependant on your personal taste. The local three wise monkeys being my fave! They have new ales on weekly (sometimes it changes by the day it sells out so fast).Brew dog, gluten free, alcohol free and all kinds of funky flavours and bottles. There is usually some kind of entertainment weather it be bands, djs, choir, Morris dancers, or just the general sublime regulars who never fail to put a smile on my face. Here u can get Thai food most days cooked by a group of incredible ladies who know their stuff! They also have pop up food on Wednesdays, Mexican, vegan, dirty burgers etc. The community spirit of the lion is one that stands strong and sadly in a minority. If more pubs/community hubs had the vibes of the lion the world would be a much better place to be in! Your welcome in this pub whoever you are! Gay, straight, black, white, trans, dog, cat, flower, tree, lizard, punk, folk, mental, biker, family, drunk, sober, hiker, biker, lazy, smoker, dancer, prancer, punk, pink hair, no hair, piercings, suited and booted, artist, writer, poets, gardeners, lions, gamers, workers, covered in painters, posh folks, poor folks, Rich folks, I donât care folks, politics, air heads, drivers, divers, webbed toers, boob jobbers, scared, pretty, young, old, dad, Gran, uncle, brother, baby, ufos, bis and hoes! They love us all no matter how big or small!!!Iâm so enjoyed to read your comment ! Not been in this pub in ages as we are not local(but not that far away)anyway we were in the area and called in for Sunday lunch,ordered 3 x Roast Beef Sunday lunches,beautiful tender beef,divine homemade Yorkshire puddings,not been in along time & still really good & good price too at £7:50.

Went here for lunch with great granddaughter, the staff were lovely, the food excellent and lots of it , the cheese and onion pie was home made and delious with home made chips and mushy peas,would defiantly go again

Great afternoon. A most pleasant walk up to Gaddings Dam passing the "Basin Stone" on our way. We then entered the Shepherds Rest- almost full [so do reserve a table if you want to be sure].We had two halves of Kingston cider, beef pepper pot with rice/ chips and a rag pudding with chips/ mushy peas and gravy.The rag pudding had pieces of steak not simply mince.Both were very tasty and the lot came to £23.35= a bargain.glad we ate after the walk or we may not have survived the moors.Haha!!!!! glad you enjoyed our food and was lucky enough to get a seat, thank you x

We always enjoy our evenings at the Brink. This evening was no exception. However it was disappointing to see a table for 4 reserved,not for the first time on a weekday, for the two hours we were there and nobody to show up. May I suggest that only the rear of the pub should be reserved rather than the premier tables in the main barr areas

Not part of a chain, not heritage themed, no false ageing. This is a proper pub, like they used to be, serving a limited range of decent beers and unpretentious proper food. Generous portions, cooked fresh, sensible prices and friendly people. Excellent! I'll definitely be back. Just hope it doesn't change.

A beautiful, newly refurbished family friendly public house, offering hearty homemade food. We have a large car park and outside seating. Well behaved dogs are welcome in the bar area.

Visited here yesterday for my sisters birthday! We booked a table for five of us yet seven turned up and although the restaurant was very busy they accommodated us very well last minute. I had the homemade cheese an onion pie which was AMAZING! An all time favourite of mine but this by far was the best! Will be going back next week for more!...even the cocktails made for us and the end of our night was amazing! Finished off a brilliant celebration and a wonderful evening by all of the staff! Big thank you!! Thank you for your review, we're really happy you had a lovely birthday meal, it's always a pleasure to have you all in and I'm sure we can always come up with some new cocktails for you to try!

A good lunch on Friday which was enjoyed in quiet and calm surroundings. The burger was good and the lamb shank was also enjoyed by Mrs.Service is efficient and friendly. This was our third visit and it is consistently good.Highly recommended.
