My husband and I have traveled to Europe over a dozen times in the last twenty years. We’ve always traveled independently doing our own research and making our own reservations. We’re very comfortable taking public transportation in Europe and have also driven rental cars. A few years ago, we started purchasing small group or private tours for day trips and museum tours. We find them to be a great value for the personalized experience you receive. The key is doing your research ahead of time and finding the right tour company for you. For our trip to Ireland in August 2019, I found several highly-rated companies that offered day trips in southern Ireland. We ended up selecting MunsterBus Tours and had a fantastic experience. We booked with MunsterBus Tours because of their good customer reviews and excellent customer service in planning the trip – specifically my interactions with Linda Conway. Linda and I emailed back and forth to plan our two day trips for 4 adults. She was very responsive and professional (with a nice sense of humor). She took the time to really think about the information I sent her and then responded with detailed information and personalized itinerary options for us to consider. I also emailed Linda while in Ireland for advice with something not related to our day trips and she responded immediately with very helpful suggestions. Great customer service! We were also delighted to find the actual day trips were very enjoyable. Our driver and guide for both days was Craig. He was knowledgeable, helpful, patient and a very good driver. He did a great job balancing informing us, entertaining us (we had fun singing Irish songs) and giving us quiet time. Craig made our time in southern Ireland even more enjoyable. When we return to continue our exploration, we will definitely use MunsterBus Tours!!

We just got home from spending 5 days with Ronan from Gan Tours! Words are not enough to express how much more (more of everything) Ronan made our trip. There were five ladies on this trip; he had his hands full with us, and he couldn't have been more courteous, pleasant, polite, charming, knowledgeable, and considerate. He was an excellent driver and would regale us with tales of Irish history, fascinating Irish politics, and stories along our journey across Ireland as we drove to the many typical sites of a first visit (Ring of Kerry, Cliffs of Moher, King John's Castle, Killarney, Dingle, and more). We often made many side stops to take in the wonders of Ireland. Ronan knew all of the spots and took us to some off the beaten path places to see more of the scenic landscapes we all clamored to see. On our first day, Ronan suggested a change in the schedule to accommodate the weather we were having to maximize our visits. it turned out to be a perfect suggestion because we had less rain and more Ireland. I'm sure (although I didn't ask) that Ronan cleaned our Mercedes van every day before he picked us up and he would often give tips for wonderful restaurants to eat, things to see in town and places to shop; he was also happy to make reservations if we needed. Ronan was fantastic and such a great part of our trip to Ireland. I am so grateful we hired him and will definitely hire Gan Tours the next time we visit. He was so good natured about our joking with him and quickly picked up on our family dynamics and was able to joke back good-naturedly and add to the fun. He was the consummate guide and definitely made our trip to Ireland a success! Well done Gan Tours and a Grand time for sure! Thanks Ronan!

An informative and moving experience here. But the entire town with its amazing cathedral overlooking the sea is amazing. And like the 99% of irish people we met, they were warm and friendly. Cant say the same about the whether though.

10. Private Tour of The Beara Peninsula

Kerry Guided Tours

Named after a Spanish Princess, the staggeringly beautiful Beara peninsula is Ireland’s foremost hidden travel gem. It straddles both counties Cork and Kerry, but does not feel fully part of either, it has a wild beauty and friendly atmosphere all of its own. With plenty of postcard pretty towns and villages like Castletownbere, Allihies and Eyeries to name but a few, the locals are renowned for their friendliness and hospitality, and they protect their Irish traditional culture fiercely. The Irish music sessions can start early in the evening and anybody with a musical talent is welcome to join in. The food in pubs and restaurants is mouth-watering, and it is served literally from field or ocean to table. As the roads are often narrow and inaccessible to the bigger tour buses, it feels far more rugged, ancient and untamed than its neighboring Iveragh and Dingle peninsulas. You will also find archaeological evidence of human history dating back several thousand years.

Inclusions: Bottled water, Driver/guide, Live commentary on board, Local guide, Professional guide, Hotel pickup and drop-off, Private tour, Transport by air-conditioned minivan

Exclusions: Food and drinks

I used this Tour Company recently for a tour of “Kingdom”, and was very glad I did. I learned so much in my day and was taken to so many places, many of them off the beaten track. They were so professional, extremely friendly and made this trip very very special. Highly recommended and if course, Kerry is gorgeous, so this is a great combination.
