Hwaseong Fortress

Hwaseong Fortress in the town of Suwon is just a 30-minute train ride from Seoul. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of Korea’s most important historical treasures and is the only remaining walled fortress in the country.

This place is a great stop and definitely in my top 15 things to see in South Korea. The fortress, gates, bastions, command posts, etc are amazing and picturesque. So many great opportunities to get cool and beautiful pictures. Lots of food and markets located on the south end of the fortress are an ideal place to stop for lunch or dinner. Small entry fee gives you access to the entirety of the fortress. Parking near Yeonmundae Information Center allows you access to tourist trolley. Parking is 2000₩ for 3 hours. If you have time, plan your trip later in the day to see the fortress in day light and at night. Beautiful beautiful beautiful. Good luck and have fun.

Bongeunsa Temple

It’s hard to believe that this large, beautiful Buddhist temple is situated in the middle of a bustling metropolis. It’s impossible not to be moved by the beauty and serenity of this enchanting temple. You can even stay overnight for a fee.

The temple looks boring from the front. Walk further in towards the back and u will see a kind of little forest or park. The autumn foliage is simply gorgeous and out of this world. this place is an easy 500m walk from Coex Mall so u can easily combine this with a visit to Starfield Library and a meal in Coex Mall.

This is the nexus of Seoul’s youth and indie culture. Funky boutiques, avant-garde galleries, and great nightclubs are this neighborhood’s mainstay. Come here for a fascinating look at the other side of traditionally conservative Korean culture.

Reviewed By dblim - Singapore, Singapore

This place never sleeps! It is filled with mostly teenagers and young adults as there is a variety of things to do here from street shopping, eating real good Korean bbq and bingsu, taking booth photos and drinking/clubbing. You can be sure to see youths awake even at 5am and during the weekends even restaurants are packed at that hour. Definitely worth checking it out if you need supper and like the night scene.

Guinsa Temple

Reviewed By andrewkI4165PK - Hoi An, Vietnam

Probably one of the best temples I have ever visited in Asia. Going to the top of the temple is definitely a steep and long hike up, but with every step towards the top becomes more serene and beautiful. If you're looking for a cheap and worth while trip in Korea, Guinsa temple is definitely worth the trip. Each building is an art on its own, and not to mention the garden that has developed around the temple is amazingly beautiful. Once at the top just take a moment to take in your surrounding. I would highly suggest going during spring or fall when it's not hot or cold as I could see it being a serious challenge in the cold or especially in the hot humid weather Korea can be during the summer as the hike is extremely steep.
