June 25, 2021 Russell Mellin

The Peloponnese (/ˈpɛləpəˌniːz/) or Peloponnesus (/ˌpɛləpəˈniːsəs/; Greek: Πελοπόννησος, Pelopónnēsos) is a peninsula and geographic region in southern Greece. It is separated from the central part of the country by the Isthmus and Gulf of Corinth. During the late Middle Ages and the Ottoman era, the peninsula was known as the Morea (Greek: Μωρέας), a name still in colloquial use in its demotic form (Μωριάς).

Mavrovouni Beach

Visited this beach a couple of times while staying in nearby Pylos. It was recommended to us by the reception staff at our hotel. This is a beautiful long sandy beach and popular with with wind surfers. Not very busy when we were there and we were not charged for using sunbeds and umbrella. Presume they belonged to the nearby beach bar where we did buy drinks on each visit. I would happily return here for a beach based holiday and made a note of some accommodation that was next to the beach for future reference! There is also camping nearby.

“People say I make strange choices, but they’re not strange for me. My "sickness" is that I’m fascinated by human behavior, by what’s underneath the surface, by the worlds inside people...There are four questions of value in life: What is sacred? Of what is the spirit made? What is worth living for, and what is worth dying for? The answer to each is the same. Only love....I think the thing to do is to enjoy the ride while you’re on it.” -Johnny Depp

Romanos Beach

This is a wonderful beach, with clean sand, nice waves when there's wind, a light undertoe and a variety of different swimming niches, some perfect for underwater viewing (lots of local fish varieties) and diving and some for just chilling. The taverna and bar, both of which are continually changing their names. provide good food, cappuccino freddo's and beer on tap just when you need them, plus there are some shady spots reaching all the way down to the shore.

Voidokilia Beach

We hired bicycles at a very reasonable cost from Martin's on the main Street through Gialova (which is open 24hrs) then headed off along the beach road and across the lagoon toVoidakilia Beach (saw flamingoes and herons on the way) then parked up on the beach for a couple of hours on the beach. You need to bring everything with you -a parasol for shade and food and drink. The bay is beautiful fine sand sloping very gently down - you can be a fair way out before you are out if your depth. Water was clear, fishes swimming everywhere. We went early but by lunchtime it was busy and we cycled back. We loved it.

We were unfortunate to arrive to 4 days of rain and thunderstorms. Peroulia beach bar and restaurant was a great spot to lazily spend the day grazing and dipping into the sea when the sun came out. Food was very good, with choice of barbecued meats and fresh fish.

Skoutari Beach

Reviewed By Anor1960 - Oxford, United Kingdom

The best beach in the deep Mani region - powder soft sand, the clearest of water and the best taverna. You could be in the Caribbean! Arrived to absolutely crystal clear flat water which turned to slight waves as the day wore on. Very shallow so you can walk out a long way. On our first visit we and one other couple were the only people there until lunch time. Can't praise it enough, but don't go as its so nice when its quiet!
