Top 10 Outdoor Activities in Green Mountains, Green Mountains

December 11, 2021 Milan Banda

Vermont’s Green Mountains are the peaks that gave the 14th state its name. Still largely covered by the verdant forest, the area is a year-round destination, popular with both skiers and hikers. The Long Trail, a wilderness hiking trail, traverses the state, while drivers set a slower pace on Vermont’s scenic roads. Quaint towns, such as Stowe and Montgomery, acres of farmed valleys, apple orchards, covered bridges and specialty stores take visitors back in time, and charming inns await.

My husband and I, and another couple recently took the guided snowmobile tour through Snowmobile Vermont - it was more than we could have ever imagined! First, the instructor who led our tour, Geoff White, was amazing. He was funny, very knowledgeable of the trail system and how to operate the snowmobile - he was the perfect tour guide and would highly recommend him. The trails were perfect - we went from wide trails, to backwoods and even across the lake! I can't stress enough how cool the experience was for our whole group.

A friend and I took a bikepacking tour with Kris in October 2019. Our goal was to experience many different types of cycling experiences Vermont had to offer, while carrying all the gear we’d need on our bikes to camp for several days. We were pretty familiar with cycling in Vermont for various 1-day gravel rides. Kris was not kidding when he said he knew Vermont cycling better than most; we rode on some really fun and also challenging terrain, stopped at some excellent roadside restaurants and general stores, and stayed overnight at 2 beautiful Vermont state parks. For the duration of the trip, Kris was able to impart his wisdom on the subjects of bikepacking preparation and best practices, he took care of all of our bike issues that arose, and offered tips on ultralight camping. We enjoyed all of the routes that Kris curated for us. He had several options for alternative roads in his back pocket in case we craved more or less out of each day’s journey. This trip was so much fun that I’ve already started the process of convincing additional friends to do this trip again next year!
