The Firkin Shed

We are Bournemouth's first ‘Micro pub.' A small family run freehouse providing you quality craft beer straight from the cask. The beers are sourced from independent breweries and our large range of still ciders are free from concentrates. No telly, but occasional live music. Enough rum to sink a ship.

We had heard about the firkin shed and thought we would check it out for ourselves, it was a lovely evening, it was raining and cold but once inside we sat next to a heater and soon warmed up, the beers and cider helped as well , fantastic choice of ciders , I had the mead, first the original and then the ginger it was so moorish, great staff really friendly they know their stuff, i would highly recommend stopping for a few, and taxi back like we did.

Be At One Cocktail Bar

We attended Be at One Bournemouth on 4th December for a birthday party. We had arranged this on short notice and the venue had been really accommodating - even allowing us to attend with a slightly smaller number than the minimum required for a class, which we were extremely grateful for. We had a great time making cocktails and this was largely due to our amazing host Jack. Jack was incredibly friendly and funny. He matched our level of enthusiasm, which only enhanced the brilliant time we were already having. Jack was a fabulous but equally fun teacher. He spent a lot of time and was very patient with us, and most of all felt like part of our group - which made the evening feel super comfortable and at ease. Fantastic evening out. Lovely team. Would highly recommend to all.

The Doghouse Micro Pub

Weymouths's Micro Pub, how pubs used to be. Real ales directly from the cask, traditional ciders, country wines, mead, gins and European bottled craft beers. No music, no jukebox, no fruit machines. Just good old fashioned conversation.

Reviewed By gljidb - Leeds, United Kingdom

Visited the micropub after struggling to find a decent variety of real ale in Weymouth. A warm welcome was ensured by Ruddles, who we kept entertained playing fetch for the duration of our visit. Three real ales were available straight from the cask and a number of different ciders.

The Square and Compass

Reviewed By marknall70 - Winchester, United Kingdom

Super walker's rest with honest home-cooked pasties & great beer. Live music and heaps of unspoilt, smuggler's-inn character. After a blowy dog-walk via Dancing Ledge the Square & Compass is a welcome sight after the stiff pull up Seacombe Bottom (a valley named to keep 12 year old boys giggling all the way up the hill.) If you're looking for a "typical" 21st century gastropub lunch you're in the wrong pub - but then there's a million places you can find that. The tiny low-beamed rooms, stone flags & rough tables are a real step back in time. There's no bar - just two serving hatches into a cellar room where the beers are gravity-poured. We were there on a Sunday afternoon and it was packed inside & out with an eclectic & good-humoured crowd, bolstered by the hipster fans of a very good, young country-ish band playing in the main lounge, live music always a great surprise. The pasties were home-cooked with excellent pastry and served piping hot, really quickly & by friendly staff. Had a couple of pints of excellently kept best bitter & younger children loved the Palmers Ginger Beer. It was a wrench to leave the fireside for a quick turn around the fascinating higgeldy-piggeldy fossil & antiquities museum and then squeeze our way back through the narrow passageways & out to a blusterous return walk. Our hound was amongst many friends - certainly a dog-friendly establishment. Worth bearing in mind the Square & Compass is tiny & very popular, we were lucky to get a table inside but you'd need to go prepared to eat at one of the many outdoor tables, enjoying fabulously airy views across the surrounding countryside & out to sea and of course the weather you'd expect to go with such an impressive situation! Will definitely be back.
