This is a great place for a picnic lunch or for a long walk or watch the sunset. Wigwams are very cool to see. We didn’t go in the museum, Just walked about 3 miles in the park. Great water views! There’s a few picnic tables or you could bring your own chairs and blankets. Easy walk/hike.

Flag Ponds Nature Park

Attempted to go to the park, but they are still only allowing Calvert County residents to access the park due to COVID. We did go three years ago and it was beautiful. Unfortunately it appears we will have to wait until the COVID restrictions are lifted to visit again. However, the State parks are open to all.

Battle Creek Cypress Swamp Sanctuary

Visited the Battle Creek Cypress Swamp preserve today. It is free, has a nice visitors center with an attentive ranger on staff, and is well maintained. A tree fell across the boardwalk and the trail is under repair. We downloaded the audio tour from the Nature Conservancy website, and learned a great deal about the cypress trees. Another highlight are the rescued red tailed hawk and barred owl.

Spring Cove Marina

A resort Marina in the heart of Solomons with slips for power and sail, full service boatyard and dry storage, pool with seasonal bar and grill, lovely picnic grounds and immaculate private bathroom facilities. Chesapeake Beach Railway Trail

Nice easy trail for all ages and dogs as well. At one point it forks, both trails dead end, so you need to double back. There are benches along the way if you want to sit and take in the views. It is a little difficult to find. Park in the Tot Lot, if facing the playground turn around, you will see a white fence,go down steps so you are on the other side of fence and turn right. After a few minutes you will see the sign for trail and boardwalk.

Calvert Cliffs State Park

Reviewed By VickiA156

We have been wanting to do this hike/walk to the cliffs for a while now. The perfect overcast day came and we were not disappointed! We loved the hike. It had rained a good bit the day before so some of the train was wet, not too bad though. We were disappointed that some younger group of folks on the trail were choosing to ignore the 'masks please' notice. Don't understand why that can't adhere to those guidelines for the sake of those of us around them. It was quite crowded this particular day. I guess that's a 'story' for another day and time. We very much enjoyed our time here. Would recommend it to anyone in the area....we drove 2 1/2 hrs for a day trip to take advantage of this great place!

North Beach

Reviewed By LVBnB - Bowie, United States

North Beach is my favorite go to place to relax, walk the boardwalk, peek at the antiques, or dart into the art shop, gift store, grab an ice cream cone or take pictures of the ducks, summer flowers, or gold fish in the art sculpture water garden. The morning hours are the best, when there are just the local dog walkers and joggers on the board walk. Yesterday the sunny fall weather was absolutely beautiful. There were a few individuals not wearing masks, but it is easy to maneuver off the boardwalk to the street and back onto the board walk. It is a very small beach, but pre-COVID, during the summer - the beach is packed with families. No matter what the season, there is an activity for all. Fishing on the pier, summer farmers market, and the beautiful Christmas Tree off the main board walk. There is a fee for non residents to access the beach and fish on the pier. But there is no fee to enter North Beach, sit on the board walk, relax and breathe the fresh air while enjoying beautiful views of the Chesapeake Bay for a few hours of the day!

Breezy Point Beach

Reviewed By COTraveller33 - Silver Spring, United States

Stopped in today for something to do during spring break with the kids. Short (1 hr) drive from Silver Spring. Easy paved walk from parking lot to the beach. The parking lot is small, so plan for that. The beach is relatively small - and broken into two sections, divided by a small creek. Be mindful that there are a few non-venomous snakes around the creek and the far rocks. The key draws here are shallow, gentle water, shaded portions of the beach and fossilized shark tooth hunting. Older kids / teens can walk way out (100+ yards) into the bay and only be waist deep. Pros: short walk Cons: No facilities or picnic tables Would recommend: Yes Would re-patronize: Soon
