Pitstone Green Museum

A fantastic museum/heritage park, established in the redundant buildings of an old `Victorian farm. A registered charity, it is run entirely by unpaid volunteers, and is open on the second Sunday of each month and all Bank Holiday Mondays from Easter to October. An amazing collection of stuff on display and being demonstrated by our members. Do not miss it !

Run completely by volunteers - shame it only opens about 9 times a year. First visit and certainly won't be the last. Many old farming implements, engineering machines large and small, model railways, tractor rides, craft stalls/sales etc, communications room including cockpit of Lancaster bomber. Many very knowledgable and approachable volunteers. Nice little cafe and today there was a small band of musicians and energetic tap dancing group. Understand last attraction changes depending on time of year.

Bucks County Museum

The County Museum, in the historic heart of Aylesbury, is a fascinating place to visit with an exciting programme of exhibitions and events for all ages.

Visited the museum to see the World War 1 Hundred Hearts exhibition by the Embroiderers Guild which was amazing. This is the second of these 100 Hearts exhibitions I have visited and they are so well presented and the stories behind them thought provoking. The exhibition had its own room which provided a peaceful back drop to the display. The museum itself is in a lovely old building in the heart of old Aylesbury so it is well worth a walk around the immediate locality and church to appreciate the architecture. The rooms within the museum lend themselves to the display of different items and themes and there is also the Roald Dahl exhibition in an adjacent building so it is easy to while away an hour or two here. Staff were friendly and welcoming, there is a small cafe area and gift shop too.

Buckinghamshire Railway Centre

Reviewed By DavidHolmes197 - Wanborough, United Kingdom

Visited o the 19th August 2020 during the current Covid restrictions and thus not all of the site was open but that did not distract form my day. Plenty of parking and the site is well signed inside to comply with Covid regulations and advice. Staff all pleasant and helpful. Entering the building to register I was amazed at what a great display n what is an old station brought on site from Oxford. Superb displays . 9 Good and clean toilets) . The weather was fairly atrocious at times but that did not stop a trip to the Royal mail travelling post office display or the Museum. Then another tea and lunch which was fine from the restricted menu ( again Covid the cause for the restriction) Social distancing rules in place which did make for a rather slow service on the cafe but the food and especially the tea and coffee were fine. Visiting the rets of the site was enjoyable with a goodly number of interesting exhibits. The short train ride was in keeping with the fact it is a rail centre and not a heritage line and ideal may be for those with youngsters having their first steam hauled train ride. Another peculiarity is the fact the site is split in half by The big Railway but two excellent foot bridges allow free passage between the two. Sadly hat appears to be an excellent miniature railway was not open . I should also mention the diligence with which they sanitised the areas for which that w s needed . An excellent day thank you

Trenchard Museum

Reviewed By artdob - Simi Valley, United States

An absolute gem of a museum that is well worth the journey just short of an hour from London. Great for fans of military history, WWI and WWII, and those connected to the Polish contingent who were stationed here during WWII and supported the allied effort. Our journey here was by public transportation, We took a train from the Marylebone Station to Wendover. From the station its a short walk to your right then a left at the main street continuing to the Clock Tower. From there, you have an option of taking bus #8 or continuing to walk another roughly 20 minutes to arrive at the base. The museum is only open on Tuesdays. You will need to show ID to get on the base. The Trenchard Museum is small, but tells the story of the technical training arm of the Royal Air Force. A number of exhibits show the various types of training that was provided here. Our visit was specific in looking for information connected to my dad’s time here in the 1940s as part of the Polish contingent. We were fortunate to be able to view the archives in a second building where we were able to view photos, letters, stories and articles about the 300+ Polish boys who attended RAF Halton - including references to my dad. This was a much unanticipated treasure trove. We returned from the archives to the museum and browsed the exhibits. Included is a special display devoted to the Polish boys who served here. Also of note was an exhibit detailing the training undertaken by the armory apprentices. We end our visit with a viewing of a memorial on the grounds to the Polish contingent of RAF Halton. A rich history is presented at the Trenchard Museum that explains the important contribution of all who attended and served here, including the not widely known Polish chapter of the story.

Old Gaol Museum

Visited the museum while staying in Buckingham - a lovely little town with lots going on there. The museum, although small, was most interesting and the building in which it is housed is unusual - looking like a small castle. The staff were exceptionally helpful - firstly on the day of our museum visit and then the following day to get advice at the Tourist Information bureau. We were told of two very interesting places to visit - great advice indeed.

Roald Dahl Children's Gallery

Hands-on discovery and amazing science inspired by Roald Dahl’s wonderful stories. Roald Dahl Children's Gallery, based at Buckinghamshire County Museum, is a fantastic place for you and the kids to let your imaginations run wild and have loads of fun! It attracts visitors from all over the country, and the world, and has won 2 major awards for education, with plenty of secrets to discover along the way!

Whilst visiting nearby family we decided to take our 11 year old and 1 year old to the Roald Dahl museum. There was something for everyone!! Our little one was able to crawl through the Fantastic Mr Fox Tunnel and look at lots of low level displays. Our little miss has been numerous times before but still really enjoyed it due to knowing the stories inside out!! There is something for everyone and there is so much to do and touch, it can take you a moment to find your feet! The price wasn't too bad. For a family/group of 4 (at least 1 child) it was £22.00. Under 4's are free and then they offer concession rates as well. Full details are on their website :) There is no car park so you have to park in the town multi story (Upper Hundreds Way, Aylesbury HP20 1AG) which was really quite cheap. We have local knowledge of the area, but it wasn't a long walk to find the museum. Now, there are 2 parts to the museum, within a beautiful courtyard. The Roald Dahl has an entrance fee, and the Bucks County Museum is free and has a continuous rotation of exhibits and events. You pay for your Roald Dahl tickets at the main museum where you will be directed back to the Roald Dahl museum. When you get to there you have to ring the doorbell and then a member of staff will let you in after checking your tickets. This is for child safety, no fear of them getting out. The Roald Dahl museum is over 2 floors and has plenty to keep little ones busy. The best thing about it all is the fact that you can also go to the main museum free of charge, so it's a 2 in 1. We didn't go to the cafe, but there is an onsite cafe, or because it is based within the town you have all or your normal establishments on your way back to the car. All in all, a lovely morning out, even during half term :) Just wanted to share incase you fancied going somewhere a little different without it costing the earth. For all the info you need, please have a look on their website! ???? Pros ???? - 2 in 1 attractions - plenty to do for all ages - well maintained ???? Cons ???? - no attraction car park - not the best signage - little bit of toing and froing with getting tickets from 1 building to go to the other ???? Overall Conclusion ???? Great day out, you can make it long or short as you like. Was a fabulous attraction with plenty to do. Definitely considering an annual pass (Family - £35) in the future!
