Top 10 Monuments & Statues in Scottish Highlands, Scotland

March 27, 2022 Jacquiline Delozier

The moody, romantic Scottish Highlands start at Loch Lomond just north of Glasgow. Comprising a slew of mountain ranges, this sparsely populated land is best seen by train on the West Highland Line. Mountains, lochs, bright heather and rhododendrons give way to white sand beaches and rugged coves as the train nears Mallaig. For a more active take on the region, hike the West Highland Way or visit the Trossachs National Park. Ben Nevis, a popular climbing spot, looms over the town of Fort William.

Worth the climb for the superb view and be sure to also visit the lovely little station where the “Hogwart’s Express” puffs it’s way through four times a day.

Diane & I fortunately opted to curtail time spent in (rather disappointing) Ft William in favour of a visit here during a National Holidays excursion and were glad we did - the weather was just perfect, crisp & clear with panoramic views of snow-capped hills, including Ben Nevis. A fitting tribute to brave men..........

Fyrish Monument

We started this trail around 8PM in June. It was steep but not bad at all. Very few people on the trail. Lovely trees and fairy like terrain. We crested the top and were treated to one of our most amazing views of the whole trip. We were able to finish before 10PM and it was still light. Loved the solitude and lovely wilderness. It is difficult to find, no signage, so take your time.

The Stunning 11ft tall Mermaid of the North sits on her rock on the shore of the Seaboard Village of Balintore. Love a walk on the beach even though it’s very pebbly and to see the mermaid pop into the local hotel for food and make an afternoon of it

Frank Bruce Sculpture Trail

Reviewed By Clash1978

Stumbled across these sculptures on a river walk. Anyone who puts the trail or garden down simply isn't 'getting it' - look at the themes of the sculptures and Frank's ideology and final wishes. Lovely woodland, great surrounding views, thought provoking art and it's free of charge. People need to open their eyes and engage their brain instead of being negative.
