Top 10 Lodges in Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico

April 23, 2023 Dorsey Hagwood

Hidden gems of Yucatan, such as Tulum, Akumal, Chetumal, Chichen Itza and Merida, offer an authentic taste of Mexico. Akumal and more Caribbean-style Chetumal, near the Belize border, deliver delectable white-sand beaches and great snorkelling. Merida, Chichen Itza and Tulum, with their ancient ruins, offer a passage into the Yucatanâs native history. Nature lovers can jungle trek and swim in subterranean sinkholes filled with crystal-clear water. Bike around the ruins and hop between towns in colectivo vans.

An incredible place not to be missed

This is an incredible place!!! You have to experience it - the whole place has a luxury zen vibe and a service culture to match that not only lifts your spirits but also you leave feeling regenerated physically and emotionally. The whole team go above and beyond to make your feel at home. The “rooms” are luxury tents but have everything you could need and the shower is outside in the jungle - the food was exceptional especially the breakfast and the wellness treatments were some of the best I have had. This is an experience not a hotel - the views of the lagoon are tranquil and you feel rejuvenated from the minute you arrive - amazing place

Essential you have a car and can tolerate mosquitoes

Reviewed By Arthur M

Our tour company had booked us to stay here, but had to leave as they had no bar, or restaurant facilities, except breakfast. It was too far from any other hotel for us to walk. The grounds were swarming with mosquitoes. It was a pity as the rooms looked really nice and it might be OK if you had a car and were prepared to go out for all meals and drinks. It appears that in the past they had a bar and did good dinners, but this has now stopped. You may be able to get some warm water, but they only have solar panels, so maybe not. The web site says “on request”. It says English spoken, but they only spoke Spanish and the site seemed to be looked after by a maid and a security guard, with no other staff present

Very nice spot

We only came there for lunch after busting Coba. The hotel looks beautiful, very nice shop and perfumes as well. The restaurant staff is very friendly however the food is not at the level of the hotel in our opinion but great experience overall. Worth it for a quick lunch with air conditioning.

A hidden gem

We stayed here for close to a month. Planned on a few days, then a week, then a month. We loved the fact it was slightly it of town but an easy and safe walk to get to. By being out of town it was quiet and we had our own private beach that was cleaned at daily. Our rooms were spotless. The housekeepers did not speak English but it wasn’t a problem. Their smiles and kindness went far. Each time we had our towels folded in a different design. Loved it! In the morning we bought our breakfast at the hotel and Alturo the cook would give us nice healthy portions always tweaking to keep them from being boring. Yes the hotel is not your new shiny hotel. But it was so clean it didn’t matter. There were so many good things about this place. The staff is number one. The pool was clean. The shower water was hot. The beach clean and private. Would have stayed longer if we could have. Alonzo the manger speaks English and was exceptionally helpful.

Noisy, on a very dirty road, overpriced. Waste of time and money. Never again.

Hotels in Celestun are dreadful, unless you wish to ruin yourself. Keep your money! A bus round trip ticket with Oriente from Merida costs 90 Pesos and it gives you ample time to do all there is, the Rio Celestun, the flamingos, the beach in front of the Palapa Restaurant, and the restaurant itself for lunch. The rest is mere blah, blah, blah...

Nice atmosphere and great breakfast

Reviewed By Cecile K

We stayed in this hotel for one night after our late arrival at the airport of Cancun. We were wiped out from the long flight but drove to the hotel easily. Upon arrival there was a little letter to us from the owner with our key, in our room (the deluxe room I think) soft 50’s-60’s music was playing, a really nice and relaxing atmosphere! We had a little mezcal with the owner once he arrived and he was super friendly. Our stay included breakfast and this was at the nearby cafe ‘por favor’: reeeallly tasty! ??

Hotel Holmar

The Holmar hotel is located on the island of Holbox, a small Mexican paradise in the northern tip of the Yucatan Peninsula, has all the amenities to rest quietly. we have rooms with sea view to enjoy and admire the sun at sunset, we also have pool and palapa. We are 30 meters from the center of the island and 30 meters from the beach

Nice option, fair price.

Reviewed By Rob D

I was looking for a good place (quiet, clean and not so expensive) to stay while visiting Holbox. This was the best option. It has a little swimming pool, free Wi-Fi on the lobby (Which is rare nowadays cuz almost all the other hotels charge for the internet) The owner is always there to help you and the best part, the rooms in the third floor have a terrific view! I hope to comeback soon. Thanks for everything!
