Good place to stay but possibly not to dine.

Lovely hotel in ancient black and white timber framed building with low beams and lots of steps and stairs. Great place to stay for exploring the beautiful town 9f Rye. Food wise, our group were happy with the evening meal but I thought it was the most disappointing meal that I have ever paid £45 for (2 courses). The crab raviolo (in broth was very disappointing as was the salt marsh lamb which lacked flavour and tenderness. Pasta for the raviolo was thick and tough. I would not rush back here to eat but I would be more than happy to stay here again.

Lovely Staff & Best Patio in Rye!

Reviewed By linnsarah

We stayed here for 1 night and had a great family room with a camp bed for our young daughter. Staff was so accommodating and friendly. Charming bar area and breakfast room and a very good breakfast with plenty of options. The star of the hotel might be the large outdoor patio area with a great mix of sunny and shady spots, beautiful plants, a nice view, and just a lovely place where you could relax for a while over afternoon tea or drinks with friends!

Lovely if busy hotel

Reviewed By Z837RBClaraS

Nice to see the George open again. The reception staff were great and most of the restaurant staff were charming; given it was just up and running again after a long closure, bound to be a few teething issues. We appreciated a room upgrade after questioning the size of our original Superior room. I'd say it's not ever going to be the quietest hotel given the central location in Rye, & yet we slept well (v comfy bed, huge bath). Only issue was we really would have liked to have enjoyed a drink in the sunny outside courtyard, but a wedding party had literally taken over the whole outside area; though there were some tables left, they'd positioned themselves badly. Some help from staff could have helped other guests use the area too (didn't seem to be enough bar staff on in the afternoon & some training might be in order over gins!). Small quibble really. Imagine all will be shipshape very soon - hard to reopen in such a busy Jubilee week!

Above average Hotel

A two night break before the bank holidays for the family was great. The amenities are wonderful, although the changing rooms are very tired. The bedrooms too are comfortable, but dated and some areas were damaged. The staff. We’re extremely friendly, but over stretched and this was shown in the 45 minutes it took to get a filter coffee, jug of tea and two apple juices. This place has so much potential, and with a little attention to details it could be amazing. Overall a comfortable stay
