We stayed 3 nights in Mountain View resort in apartment with two children. Far from luxury accomodation. The food and services ok for 3 star hotel, not for 4 star hotel. Inside pools ok, outside pools reasonable. For money we payed you can find much better hotel with pools in Slovakia.

Renovated & central hotel, ignorance of COVID-19 rules

Reviewed By Lucia V

We stayed at the Hotel Toliar for a long weekend in August. The hotel itself exceeded my expectations, as the rooms were renovated, big, had lots of storage space and spacious balconies with nice views. I have been coming to the Strbske Pleso area since I was a baby so I knew the hotel is quite old and was pleasantly surprised by the modern rooms. The rooms were very clean when we arrived. The location is also fantastic, close to the train station, lots of restaurants, a mini market and many beautiful hiking trails. The breakfast was alright, nothing amazing but not too bad either. The pool is quite small and has a view of the parking garage and guests unfortunately have to pay to enter. What was truly awful was the complete ignorance of COVID-19 rules. Nobody wore face masks anywhere, including the very crowded breakfast area (they still do open buffets even though every hotel I have been to since the beginning of the pandemic has now switched to the staff giving you the food you ask for). Guests do not wear face masks in the hallways, in the tiny elevator, in the reception area or, as I said, in the buffet line. And, unfortunately, the staff does not wear masks either. The cleaning staff wore no masks, the reception staff wore no masks, the spa staff wore no masks (incl. the masseuse), the restaurant staff wore masks on their chins. As a result, 3 out of 4 adults in our group got sick a few days after we came back home (luckily just a cold). I also didn't like that even though our rooms were very clean when we arrived, all the cleaning staff did during our stay was provide clean towels and new toilet paper but did not clean anything in the rooms (not even make the beds or wipe the floors). I cannot comment on the restaurant, we never ate there except for the breakfast, due to the bad reviews. Instead, I can highly recommend the restaurant Furkotka across the street which has fantastic food and very friendly staff (although they also don't wear masks, it seems that the local staff hopes for another lockdown).

Nice hotel, with a great location and a wonderful view

Reviewed By laurmarianm

This hotel actually exceeded my expectations! We stayed in Poprad for 2 nights on our trip in the High Tatras region. The town doesn't have much to offer but it's close to the mountains and the small villages in Vysoké Tatry. The hotel was really nice! It's an older hotel that's located pretty close to the train & bus stations and to the city center. It might not look too much from the outside, but the room was clean, comfortable & spacious enough, and it had a view to the hills. The only issues were that the windows & bathroom are pretty old (they really show their age!), but this will soon be fixed from what we understood. We also had breakfast included: it was the usual buffet type breakfast, but it had diverse options so you could basically eat different foods every day. The staff was really polite, helpful and quick. They all spoke English and were very professional all the time. Overall, this was a pleasant experience and we'll surely be staying here whenever we'll revisit the High Tatras region.

Lovely week's stay

Reviewed By bigspaniel

I had a lovely week's stay at the Hotel Europe. It is very convenient for anyhow traveling by train, since it is literally steps away from the Poprad-Tatry rail terminal. It is a comfortable hotel with lovely rooms, very quiet. The cafe is very nice and has a good selection of dishes, mostly Slovak, and wonderful deserts. The breakfast is very good. But the best think about the Hotel Poprad is the very attentive and kind staff, from the management to the cafe staff to the housekeeping staff. They were always very helpful and friendly. They also did a very good and quick job with my laundry. Poprad is a very neat and tidy town. The center of town is maybe 10-15 minutes walk from the hotel.

No , no , no , no and NO!

Reviewed By RobertYUL

I booked this thru my usual portal. The photos shown concentrate on the AquaCity and suggest that this AquaCity property is indeed in the AquaCity. In actual fact this hotel is across a »river » but that isn’t the main issue. The misleading (and I’m being polite by only calling it misleading) photos do a complete disservice to anyone researching this property or to drivers attempting to determine where to drop a guest off. If you follow the photos you will I fact be dropped off at a different location. When I had arrived and was dropped off at the main AquaCity building I subsequently followed the signs to the reception , took the elevator, and approached the desk. The receptionist told me that I was at the wrong place and then walked me to their terrasse where she pointed to the stadium telling me it was over there. I walked out of the AquaCity building and spotted a sign in the opposite side of the street indicating that the AquaCity Riverside was only 100 meters away. Seemed simple enough. I walked 100 meters and there was almost nothing. No sign , no building, just a pitch dark and unpaved packed dirt of a parking lot with trees and brush at the far end. Not seeing a hotel or even any lights suggesting the presence of a hotel I decided to try both google and Apple maps. Both of these options had me walk in pitch black with almost knee high grass and then around what seems to be a relatively new stadium bringing me back in front of the main AquaCity building. I wasted one hour , schlepping my suitcase and then called for assistance. After over twenty minutes of well intentioned but useless help (yes I know which city I’m in, thank you) the person from the portal contacted reception (which coincidentally was the same reception that I had initially gone to but was told it was the wrong one) where the receptionist came out to lead me to the correct hotel. I do appreciate this extra level of service but frankly it wouldn’t be necessary if correct and accurate signage and lighting were in place in the first instance. So she’s leading me thru the compacted dirt parking lot and asks me if I have a light. We used the light from my phone to find a path through the tree line and brush so we can find a narrow pedestrian bridge over said « river » it to lead us to what appeared to be part of the back of the stadium. There, on the unlit wall was a sign with the hotel name on it. Are you kidding me?!? I don’t mind adventure but I’m averse to stupidity and less than genuine representations from vendors. Having a sign indicating a direction and distance with no follow up signage is short of useless. This is especially true when the access to the property is unmarked, not illuminated and needs to be found by flashlight, traversed through the bush and then over a pedestrian bridge over the « river » in order to find an unlit sign on the side of a building indicating that a hotel is present. Shame on you AquaCity for using misleading photos to sell your satellite property. This is a classic « bait and switch » technique and would be frowned upon wherever consumer law is prevalent. Providing misleading signage and nebulous directions was detrimental and cost me needless time, energy and anxiety. I’ve stayed in hotels for over 160 nights in 2019. This BY FAR was the least pleasant experience. If you are not from the area and if you are planning on booking at this property , especially if you are arriving after dark do yourself a favor and DON’T. Once inside this hotel may seem nice enough but I’m so upset about the grief leading up to this point that I’m done with this place. Furthermore I take issue with the ethics on how this property is promoted via the booking portal and maintain that I, as a consumer, have been intentionally mislead. Shame on you hotel AquaCity. Shame on you Hotel portal that i used for complicity. You have provided this foreign guest with a very bad first experience of your Country!

What a dump

Arrived at this place after grueling 48 hours trip from war-torn Ukraine, a supposed haven for the new refugee arrivals. I was ripped off at €78 full price for this unheated (joke) of a “apartment” on the third floor of hostel (at best) despite the Slovak Government’s offer of help (€7 max per head for refugees from UA crisis) Disgusting opportunism by hotel owners. I had to ask the management for a space heater and a set of linen for my son, supplied grudgingly. Stay away… will complain to my credit card issuer in morning and dispute all charges.

Dropped the Ball

Check-in was handled poorly. We did not meet Jan until the second night at which time we were checked in. We had to get all pertinent information from other guests upon arrival. The bed was comfortable, the shower had good water pressure and the room was clean. Location was close to town and supermarkets. Fifteen minute walk from the train station. The biggest drawback was that the temperature in the room was "miserably" hot. There was no circulation of outside air due to the location of the room. The crisp cool night air never made it into our room even with the window open 24/7. A fan would have made a big difference. Definitely cannot recommend this place and would not stay here again.

The High Tatras background, chamber environment filled in with an unrepeatable atmosphere of rennaisance, specialties of slovak and world cuisine and a royal care of our guests – all this is prepared for guests of our restaurant. The backbone of our menu is made of meals of high quality and excellent taste, which attracts gourmets also from farther distances. You can pay for everything by your credit or debit card. The accomodating capacity of the guesthouse is 25 people in 8 rooms. The rooms are two-bed with possibility of adding more beds. All of them are equipped with bathroom, refridgerator, minibar and TV set. There are wood fireplaces in five of them. In one of the rooms you'll find a steam bath.

A really nice place to stay

Reviewed By Julieabcdefg

Our room was very large and had plenty of character. The building is several hundred years old. Our room was very quiet (you don't hear other guests) and well heated. When we stayed the weather turned cold and wet so we spent longer than expected inside, and this was the perfect place to do so. The location in the old Sobota area is both good and bad - it has a lovely atmosphere and history, but on a Sunday absolutely nothing is open (so plan ahead). Some of the furniture was a little tired.
