Decent enough - but the town is avoidable
Reviewed By KotinkaThis is an Ikea-style hotel; efficient, cheap, chearful and clean. There can't be many better places I suspect in a town like this. No complaints at all. Having said that, this town is totally avoidable. Atmosphere and architecture is sad, somewhat ugly even (and taxi drivers a bit aggressive), and the Fort and "great wall" are seriously overrated as sights, in my humble opinion. If you determined nevertheless to see the end of the road for Han China, try and arrive in the morning and get out by evening. Places like Dunhuang (west) and Zhangye (east) are much more worth spending your evenings in.

Pleasantly Surprised
Reviewed By GillboyI was pleasantly surprised by the the standard of the hotel bearing in mind Jiayuguan is an isolated city in north China. The room was very spacious with a large double bed, modern bathroom and balcony with view of the snow capped mountains overlooking the city. The breakfast was very good buffet with mainly Chinese dishes. The guests consisted mainly of groups of Chinese tourists. The only negative was the problem of communication with the reception staff. They spoke virtually no English. When i checked in they were very welcoming, but within 5 minutes of checking in to my room, there was a knock on my door from one of the receptionists who aggressively said that i should go back to reception and pay for the room. When i went downstairs to pay the staff were not so welcoming and made it clear that they would rather i paid cash than by credit card. Despite this irritation i would definitely recommend this hotel. The location is very central and the room was really nice. The hotel also represented good value for the money i paid.

Nice Hotel Room but No Heating
Reviewed By Gordon TThe Holiday Plaza Hotel is in a nice centrally located hotel in Jiayuguan - big, spacious and clean. However, when we had checked-in, the desk clerk told us that due to some government regulation on limiting power usage, the room heating systems have to be turned-off. The desk clerk recommended for us to bundle-up in blankets to keep warm at night. However, that was not enough for the chilly evenings in Jiayuguan in late October. We had to go to bed fully clothed and wearing cold-weather down jackets just to keep warm while sleeping in our hotel room. Not very comfortable having to sleep fully clothed and with down jackets. I have down-graded my review of this hotel to 3-stars at best because of the lack of room heat making it difficult for a comfortable nights sleep. We were fortunate that we only had to stay at this hotel for only one night so that we can visit the main tourist attractions near this area: Cliff Great Wall and Jiayuguan Pass & Fortress.

Chinese old school hotel
Reviewed By Yokozuna_rThe external appearance was not very inviting because it is little tired. From the entrance hall, the decoration is typically Chinese... you are undoubtedly in a Chinese hotel. The reception staff spoke very little English but were very welcoming and went out of their way to understand each other. We made a comeback in the 70's with the decoration of the room. Despite this, the room (and hotel) was very clean and comfortable, except for the shower which worked very badly and which required urgent refurbishment. The breakfast was typical Chinese but plentiful and decent. The hotel is not especially central but there are all the shops nearby. There is little accommodation option in Jiayuguan and Jiayuguan Hotel is nevertheless a good option.

Best value and service, even for Foreigners
Reviewed By JxiaotangI travelled with my husband during national holiday for two weeks. We were very lucky to stay in some good hotels, best value and highly recommend is Bestay Hotel in Jiayuguan. Location is good, comfortable walk to bus station and night market, bus to train station is downstairs. Room is small like staying in Tokyo but clean and comfortable. I have to mention is the staff in bestay is a very good team. Xiaoyu and other girls are young and service their guests with very good manners, providing useful information as much as they can. Staying in bestay make our stay in Jiayuguan is more memoriable and fun. We love the people there!

Reviewed By hidetaroInternational Youth Hostelですが、スタッフは中国語しかできません。ただし、中国語であれば、観光について親身に相談にのってくれ、格安で観光タクシーの手配をしてくれました。ホテル経由での予約なので安心感もバッチリ。 部屋は広め。シャワーの湯量も問題なし！ただ、ホテル近辺を含めての停電が何度も発生し、大変でした。

Reviewed By s33eetpeaWe were met and collected from the railway station by the hotel boss himself. On arrival at the hotel, we were welcomed with cooling towels and yoghurt drinks. The bedroom was exactly the same as the hotel photos. The hotel is centrally located, with many eateries, shops and supermarkets. We liked the BBQ skewered lamb ” 眼镜烤肉 “, across the road. There is a garden nearby where you can have a stroll after dinner, and watch local danced the evening away. The hotel does not serve breakfast, we were recommended the "谷稻香八宝粥", near the crossroad, where it served different grains of porridge, steamed buns etc. they were delicious. The boss and front staff were very enthusiastic, they used language translation app. handset, to communicate with us, as we speak only minimal Chinese. The boss also helped arranged a honest, conscientious driver / guide, for us to visit the WeiJin Tomb, and tour of the 3 big Jiayuguan attractions, whom also helped us to secure bus tickets for our onward journey. We could not have been more pleased, Thank you.
