Top 10 hotels in Islay, United Kingdom

August 6, 2022 Lashaunda Abraham

The Isle of Islay spans 240 square miles, with an impressive 130 miles of coastline. The island is famous for its malt whiskies, and there are eight distilleries on the island. To be sure, many people visit the Isle to tour distilleries and "appreciate" whisky, but the wildlife and scenery are also a big draw. Bird-watching is particularly popular through the year. Just don't try to squeeze it in after a distillery tour or two. Looking through binoculars has been known to make some people woozy, especially after whisky.

Super Birthday Dinner

Reviewed By DMT22

My wife and I had a birthday dinner in the Islay Hotel. We had not eaten here for quite a while and were very pleasantly surprised at the extensive and exciting menu. We both ha a starter and main, but couldn't try the puddings as we were so full. Our meal was perfectly cooked, beautifully presented and expertly served. We couldn't fault the experience. This was easily the best meal we have ever had in the Islay, not that there was anything wrong in the past, but this was exceptional. Well done all and thank you.

A home away from home

I booked this hotel due to other reviews and we were not disappointed. We went for my partner's 40th birthday. Gorgeous room appointed (Room 9). We booked dinner the first night and it was outstanding, then we popped to the bar for a wee nightcap. Gorgeous little bar with loads of choice of drinks including of course whisky! Everyone was so friendly and welcoming including David and Harris in the bar. They had a fire on most days which was lovely after a day out exploring. We ended up having dinner at the hotel every night of our stay because we enjoyed the food so much, although we did ask to eat in the bar. Oh there is live music on Wednesdays and Sundays we the three person group we saw were delightful with lots of local music and a surprising cover of Johnny Cash's Folsom Prison!!! David also treated us to a nightcap on the house on my partner's birthday! The ladies at reception couldn't do enough for us either throughout our stay. Another lovely lady who was looking after the bar shared her mother's 'tablet' with us - tablet is a type of Scottish fudge. Breakfast was included in the rate and the team at breakfast were delightful also and the food just delicious. I'm afraid we only met one of the chefs a wonderful gent from Liverpool - he and my partner had a great chat about e-bikes. When we return to Islay we will definitely stay here again. We felt so comfortable, and at peace here. It is a beautifully run hotel with outstanding staff who all seem like they truly enjoy their job. Oh a good point to note is that bus (450) stops very close to the hotel and runs into Bowmore and through to the airport!

Warm, welcoming, and helpful!

We stayed at Eilidh from April 20 to 23. It was wonderful! Niall is the perfect host who went out of his way to help us with restaurants, distilleries, bike rentals and golf. The breakfasts were superb and he cheerily accomodated dietery restrictions. And he has a three piece Scottish music band that plays at the local hotel--a treat! The rooms were clean and bright. Stay here! And thanks Niall. The Giolittos.

Great Place To Stay For Exploring Islay

Reviewed By KelevTov

Port Charlotte is a charming town on the coast of Islay. Not much in the way of services, like no store or fuel, but a good location to base for roaming the island. The booking process was easy. For those looking for self-catering options, there are few that are not 1 week minimum, like this property. Very appreciated. The apartment we stayed in, Kilchoman, was delightful. Very attractive, very modern, but still with a sense of being in a unique lodging. Definitely not cookie-cutter chain. Very well equipped kitchen. Comfortable bed, nice linens, comfortable furniture. Quiet, with a very pleasant outdoor picnic table. The pub in the Port Charlotte Hotel was a friendly welcoming place. We enjoyed the Wednesday night live music. An easy walk from this apartment. Staff was helpful and responsive. We look forward to coming back and spending more time. Bravo to Margaret and Alison and staff!
