Back to Byfords

We were spending four nights in Holt so we decided to eat out tonight. We made a decision to go back to Byfords, as we had previously dined there before a few years ago. The service was warm and friendly and the timings between courses was just right. The 2 course deal offered by Byfords in my opinion is excellent value for money. We had the crispy beef to start which was cooked perfectly which had a sticky sweet chilli relish covering the beef which was tasty and flavoursome. This was accompanied by another starter of crispy fish fingers with tartar sauce. The batter was crispy and the fish was beautiful, white and flaky. We ordered the smoked haddock kedgeree for a main which was delicious and tasty with plenty of prawns and large flakes of smoked haddock topped with a poached egg just to add a touch of richness. We also ordered the Duo of BYFORDS Beef which consisted of Seared Rump Steak, slow cooked beef pie, anna potatoes, buttered vegetables & red wine gravy. The beef was cooked perfectly and melted in the mouth, and each element on the plate was well cooked and delicious. We also ordered the Spiced Lamb Burger which was accompanied with Onion Bhaji, black onion seed brioche, mango mayo, crispy paprika wedges, which was tasty and filling. If you are in Holt I would definitely recommend a visit to Byfords they have a varied menu with something for everyone. Thank you for a lovely meal.

Lovely stay in Holt Norfolk

Reviewed By carolss869

Stayed for two nights. The hotel was clean and comfortable. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the hotel is about to close for changes to be made and the bar was slightly depleted. The food was very good but menu was again slightly limited. Breakfast was good with lots of choice. I was surprised that our bedroom windows ( tilt & turn) didn’t have window restraints. It was however a very enjoyable stay in an excellent location.

Friendly staff and great food. Relaxed atmosphere - mainly tables for food service but there is also a small bar area with a great little open fire. Pork fillet was excellent :). It’s in a great location in the centre of a very attractive Norfolk town.

Lovely lunch,, a few things requiring attention

Reviewed By HelenG526

Visited for a celebration lunch. The hotel looks lovely both inside and out and the restaurant does well in setting the tone for something a little special. We were made very welcome by the Head Waiter,, who was attentive and helpful. The table was laid up nicely and plenty of space in restaurant. The menu had a nice balance of choices, though both the vegeterian starter and main had cheese in. The overall experience was wonderful,, meal and setting both. However i do think in order to maintain your high class narrative, you would do well to pay attention to finer details. Head waiter was brilliant at doing the hosting less competent at slickly handling his brigade. We waited ages to be offered dessert had to flag a waitress even to get menu,, ( 2 tables cleared after us got menu before us),, Staff need to better communicate with each other, also often wandering around, but not very observant. I like the niceties of moving your dessert cutlery down,, but if your going to do these niceties then do bring them down on the correct side!! Nice to see a place with plenty of staff on duty,, maybe leave your Head Waiter do the hosting he is very good at,, and have a second in command who is looking after the effeciecies and attention to detail., (the service did loose its way a bit) Also staff nicely dressed in smart uniform but footwear was not in keeping,,, if trainers have to be worn,, completely black would work better. I would recommend this restaurant to friends and family

Fabulous scones. First-class toasties. Fantastic directions.

Reviewed By NorthantsNige

We popped in here for a reviving coffee halfway through a walk. We hadn’t long had breakfast, but we were tempted by the fresh scones. We shared a Bakewell scone – it was absolutely superb. The gentleman behind the bar was exceptionally welcoming and friendly, and he even supplied us with directions for the next stage of our walk – helping us to discover a lovely route that wasn’t in the guide book. We went back two days later and made sure we were there at lunchtime. The cranberry and brie toasties were outstanding. The décor is smart and stylish and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. We’ll definitely be back again. Highly recommended.

A Home from Home Experience

I greatly appreciated and enjoyed the peace and sanctuary Mount Farm offers. As an early riser, I heard a symphony of bird song in the morning and caught sight of boxing hares in the adjacent fields. It is well and truly off the beaten track, but only about 5 minutes from the town of Holt. I would highly recommend Mount Farm. You will receive a warm welcome from your host, who ensures everything is welcoming and comfortable. I hope to return later this year.
