Very neat resort but the Gravel road spoils it !

Reviewed By DragonZordTravelling

Nestled amongst the mountains and Sterkfontein Dam, this resort has a very unique location. But be warned that there is a good amount of Gravel to get through to this resort. The gravel is driveable but you would need to drive a good 40km/h or less in some places. Once there, there is just a relaxing environment. The rooms are clean, neat and very cosy. With a jetmaster you can relax with the log fire burning away ! The managers makes you feel very welcomed and caters for your every request or at least tries to see what can be done. The pizzas at the restaurant are really really delicious! The reason for the 3 star, is that the gravel makes it extremely unpleasant to get to the resort and by the time you get there, one is absolutely tired!

Comfortable break in the trip

We needed to find accommodation close to the N3 freeway en route to Johannesburg. Mountainview Inn met all our needs. It was a comfortable room with tea and coffee facilities, microwave and full bathroom. Liaising with the Inn was efficient and our requirements were met with great ease. These rooms are suitable for single travellers or a family of 4 incl 2 young children. We will stay there again. Restaurants all within close walking distance.

Located in the lovely small old village of Swinburne, and great for a midway stop between KZN & Gauteng

Reviewed By LBdiscoveries

An authentic old small village experience. We stayed in the unit that used to be the home of the local Butcher. Have seen the turnoff to Swinburne before and never knew this must be one of the nicest small towns in South Africa. Location is great as a midway between KZN & Gauteng, and just off the N3 and outside the town Harrismith and Van Reenens Pass. The unit is basic as one can expect, but it had two patios. Nice cosy local restaurant pub with fireplace and great for dinner and breakfast.

The water is brown and had two small red worms in our tub. The division between the beds and bathroon is a blind, so no privacy. The balcony is of no use as the road noise is bad. But it is well maintained and clean.

Ridiculous pre 7am wakeup - unecessarily!

Reviewed By Laurajune1810

What a absolutely rude and ridiculous manager. Got there about 6pm. No wood for fire and shop was shut the place was FREEZING!! Not the staff's fault if management won't provide firewood! THEN.... knock knock by management before 7am on our door as the hot water service had tripped and the switch was in our room. THEN she RUDELY blamed me for locking the door. No. If you may need to get into the room have a spare key or communicate it even leave a note on the inside of the door stating not to lock it and this may happen. So absolutely rude, no wonder the place is for sale!

Flea Bites

Reviewed By heinmich

Guesthouse was very friendly and prompt with replies, we cannot fault them on that. We booked for business travel and no meals where booked. Unfortunately all three gentleman that stayed there, in three seperate rooms had tick/flea bites (bed bugs) all over their bodies. As I made the booking, I reported it to the guesthouse but they did not even respond. If it was my establishment I would be a tad humiliated and would definitely reply to apologise and take action.

Warm welcoming from Staff, showed me to my room, gave me wifi passwords, and added me to the gate system, which I must say was a first, you have to be able to dial yourself into the property. Aircon was not working so I was given a heater which helped a little, along with the warm blanket in the cupboard. old house which has been divided up into rooms with very old creaky wooden floors which is a little creepy when walking in after dinner and all lights were off inside. Breakfast was ok,
