Top 10 hotels in Guadalajara, Mexico

August 5, 2022 Trinity Boughner

The inland city of Guadalajara is bursting with history and culture. Many attractions are in the city's historic center and in the neighboring city of Zapopan. Museums, parks and churches flourish alongside bullfights, rodeos and soccer (futbol). Nearby are the towns of Tequila, where the liquor of the same name is produced, and Tlaquepaque and Tonala, where artisans create an abundance of Mexican handicrafts. Mariachi, which originated in the area, is a common sight and sound in Guadalajara.

Fell short of expectations

Being part of AMEX hotel collection, I have some minimum level of service I expect. Unfortunately, the hotel did not deliver. We were “upgraded” to a corner view room, which moved us from a 70 sqm suite room to a 38 sqm room. Not sure why being moved to a smaller room is considered an upgrade. We had the spectacular view of the highway that comes with the traffic noise and the vibration whenever a truck drives by. The amenities are basic. Housekeeping did not even replace our toiletries during our 3 night stay. They leave 2 towels, one hand towel and no washcloth or face towel. The bathroom is badly designed with the water flowing out of the shower room. We needed to put towels so it does not flood through the bathroom. The shower head is barely hanging on the ceiling, the vent is also very dirty. The water temperature changes throughout your shower. From cold to hot to cold to hot again without even have to move the knobs. We had dinner at JAlL restaurant. The food is expensive but not very good. The service takes a long time. At the end, the server told us that we have to leave minimum of 10% gratuity. Same issue we had with breakfast - server told us we cannot charge our gratuity to the room but we had to leave it in cash. Overall, we left disappointed with the stay.

Clean & Comfy

The hotel is in a great location to explore the city and the suburbs. There are a lot of good restaurants in the neighborhood which was a great addition. The room was clean and comfortable but the bed sheets were polyester and not cotton as I expected, also the mini fridge wasn't working at all. Clearly there's room for improvement but it was a great stay.

This hotel is gorgeous, huge contemporary marble lobby, with a beautiful bar and restaurant on the entrance level. Up one level is the swimming pool, salon and breakfast facility, that is amazing! Huge gorgeous buffet every morning with smoked salmon, omelettes all types of Mexican food, fresh fruit, veggies, tuna salad, bacon, sausage, sweets… It was one of the best parts of our trip. We attended a family wedding with dozens of other people, had a fabulous time. Rooms are beautiful, the bathroom is stunning, shower unbelievable, everyone loved that! The only downside is it’s not in a great neighborhood for walking around and the beds were very hard! We were so impressed with the hotel chain we plan to have our next trip to Mexico at another Hotel RIU.

A beautiful 19th century 4 story colonial hotel. Right in the heart of all the sights and restaurants and shopping. 3 subway stops nearby. Friendly staff. Very modern and well appointed rooms. Excellent air conditioning. Restaurant was very good for breakfast. Armed guard at the entrance. I guess the area can be somewhat dangerous but we never felt unsafe the whole week we were there.

Better choices around

Reviewed By Jorge-Mx-F

I was there with my wife on "executive floor"... The hotel is nice as always (always like... years ago), but feels a bit unclean or old. The room smells funny, like lots of humidity, even after more that 12 hrs of AC and bath air extractor. Personal was really nice, but the mask (all of them were using the same) was so loose that they were almost like not using mask. Cleaning service lady was so nice but lacking of mask. Furniture was "clean" (in the way that what a daily cleaning can do), but looks like years have passed before any deep cleaning. About cleaning and covid related stories: rooms are poor ventilated !! No windows at all!! So... I think you can get better stay at other hotels around for almost the same price. I'll try hotel at the next corner the next week.

The hotel is not as other very large hotels in town, and that’s ok. It is in very good physical condition. The included breakfast buffet is good (not great). Service is great all along. Great secured surface and underground parking. The location is awesome as many of the great restaurants we went to were not more than 20 mins away. For the amount we paid we had great value. Would certainly do it again.
