Parking is, when the hotel is busy, almost impossible and they send you to a nearby hotel (by arrangement) to park - spaces limited there too.

Not what it used to be

We have stayed here on a couple of occasions and always been blown away by the food, rooms and service. First of all, the Luxury rooms are not luxury, they are very dated, air con that sounds like an aeroplane taking off and furniture that has seen better days. There is however plenty of space. We have previously stayed in the ground floor Luxury rooms (rothay suite) which are a totally different class to the luxury tooms situated on the first and second floor. I would strongly advise to request a ground floor room well in advance when booking, they are more modern and have a spacious terrace area. The next issue we found on this stay was the food, the salt aged beef was like a rubber sole and the deserts were extremely dry. Not what you would expect from a AA rosette restaurant. We done the tasting menu and we were finished our meal in 20 minutes, I think the restaurant staff could do with some simple training as small matters like this make a massive difference. The staff we encountered on our previous visits in the restaurant were impeccable, they could not be faulted but I think there have been some unnecessary changes made since then. The reception staff however are great and very pleasant. I wouldn’t rule out coming back here but some basic changes need put in place.

Just had a one night stay at this hotel. We was too early to check in yesterday but was allowed to park the car and walk two minutes to the sister hotel and use their swimming pool and sauna which was very relaxing. Once checked in at room 401 which is in the annex, a cute bungalow which holds four rooms, we went back into the hotel to use the pantry, here we made coffee and had scones with jam and fresh cream, we had these on the little veranda, this had a heater you can put on. All staff were very attentive. Had a little bimble round Grasmere then back for a shower which was amazing. We then walked out to the sister hotel and had a drink in there before moving onto another couple of places for drinks. We had booked into Lewis restaurant which was lovely. Morning soon came around, we pre ordered breakfast the previous day. Loved the fact that you went into the pantry again and could pick your continental breakfast and drinks before being served your cooked breakfast. All was very nice and ran smoothly thanks to the staff.

We are walking the coast-coast route and the Traveler's Rest Inn was our Grasmere stop. What a welcome sight it was! The fire was going, we had a large comfortable bed in a decent sized room and the breakfast was great. It's a little outside the town of Grasmere(only an 8-10 min walk) and perfectly located for the next leg of the C2C path. The view from the bedroom was stunning.

Great dinner , the best in Grasmere

We only found Tweedies on our last day in Grasmere, and it was a great find. We had a lovely dinner , and it improved on the meals that we had had in our hotel (which was a little down the road) , so really appreciated the great service and food.
