This place is wonderful ! We had an amazing time and we’ll come again for sure ! The location is spot on, just at the step of the slopes and in addition the hotel provides a private service to take you and bring you back from the slopes. No hustle or stress of carrying your skiing equipment ! Easy drive to amazing scenic views and hikes around. The orientation is also appreciated as you get to eat every breakfast bathed in sunlight ! The rooms are spacious with large comfortable beds. The equipment of the hotel is spot on. Everything is thought through and nothing is missing. From the spa, multiple lounges, bar, kids play room, safe and clean garage, huge ski storage unit … they have it all. The bar tender will make you all kinds of great cocktails and the alcohols are very high quality. The portions are very generous and multiple snacks are served with your drinks ! The food was good with very generous meals. We were rarely able to make it through all of the 5 dishes ;) Generally speaking we very much appreciated the extreme service minded, and attention to detail and to your comfort that the staff is constantly offering. Special attentions are constantly done to make your stay feel extra special. The staff quickly make the effort to know you, and your personal preferences. This makes the entire experience feel above what can be found elsewhere ! Bravo to the team ! The manager of the hotel is very friendly, very present, he knows his guests well and is very hard working ! This place makes you feel special ! We will be back !

The location is great. From our window we looked right across at the two beautiful old churches in town, and looking the other way saw the mountains. There is a very close garage for easy parking if you have a rental car. The rooms are large and there was clearly a very recent renovation of the entire hotel. Everything looks new and in perfect condition. We ate several dinners at the bar just to have a light, snacky, meal. The food was great and service friendly. We also had one full dinner in the dining room and they clearly have an excellent kitchen. Great, creative, high level food. The breakfast spread with lavish with tremendous variety. They even had lactose free milk for your cereal.! Finally, you learn quickly that this is a family run business. They get to know you after a day or two (we stayed four nights) and you can see they really care about your experience. They also had the best Covid protocols we encountered on our trip Just a great hotel in a wonderful town.

Staying at the hotel the night before we started walking Alta Via 1, the hotel is conveniently located next to the Cortina bus stop and a 15-20 minute walk into town. The staff were very welcoming and managing to operate the hotel in a very professional and safe manor. Like many others, we ate Pizza in the restaurant, which was actually very good with great service.

This hotel is top drawer. Everything about it is excellent. From the glasses that you get your superbly made cocktails in to the five star food to the superb cleanliness outstanding facilities and to top it all off a super friendly staff. We have just returned from a weeks skiing staying at this hotel. We were very impressed with all of the furniture. The organisation as well as the friendliness and willingness to help of all of the members of staff who work there. Very accommodating food allocation especially when you have two picky children they managed to provide what ever food was requested for an evening meal as well as a standard four course delicious meal every night served on the most beautifully decorated tables with fresh linen , lovely plates and dishes and cutlery and that’s not to mention the quality of the food. Fabio the bartender produced some outstanding cocktails with the most beautifully prepared garnishes and presentation of these drinks. The reception staff were extremely friendly and always willing to go the extra mile for giving help and advice. Reactivating ski passes every morning and they were very efficient in sorting out any issues. So book this hotel and staying in it was a very enjoyable experience from start to finish. It is set in what I can only describe as an exclusive village. The supermarkets delicatessens Cafes are all wonderful. Harrods the famous store in London would not even get a look in at some of the foods available in the village. The skiing for the week was good. The ski bus arrives outside twice every hour and takes approximately 10 minutes to get to the main ski area although you can ski in San Cándido but really that’s only half a mornings worth of skiing. So yes yes yes book this place it’s a great family holiday and the piano playing by my son Louie Scott entertained on an evening to give the whole holiday a real family feel.

Nice hotel in a great setting

Reviewed By rubenbristian

We chose this hotel because of the panorama pictures we saw, and we weren't disappointed. You have spectacular views from the hotel grounds and the rooms. The rooms are large, clean, but pretty basic. It doesn't amaze you in any way. The restaurant is nice, dinner is very good (not "wow", but good). The breakfast on the other hand is pretty poor. On our fourth day we were just tired of the same things. If you're travelling with kids, they have some kind of small play room somewhere in the building, which was very useful for us, early in the mornings :) There are a lot of german guests in the hotel, and you do get the impression that the staff tends to be more helpful to them, than other guests, as most staff speaks only German :) The surroundings are good, there are a lot of fun things to do for families in the area. If we would come back to this area, we would definitely choose this hotel again.

Wonderful base in San Candido

Reviewed By BalkanEnthusiast

Excellent facilities, great value for money and very good atmosphere in general. The property feels like a home away from home and the apartments are clean, tasteful and very comfortable. We stayed in the two bedroom apartment, which was massive. Breakfast is plentiful and of excellent quality. There is no restaurant in the hotel for an evening meal, but many options in walking distance. The spa is well appointed and provides a good opportunity to wind down after a busy skiing or hiking day. The underground parking is an added bonus. Walking distance from the slopes in Baranci and bus to Versciaco stops right outside the hotel. Other ski resorts are a short car/ train ride away. If there is one thing I would comment/ suggest to be improved: there did not appear to be eggs to order at breakfast. This would be a small “add on” that would be very much appreciated by many travellers.

Perfect place to trekking, relaxing, eating and enjoying the Dolomites. Kindess and service a BIG value added

Sud tyrol has always been a beautiful place to visit, especially if you love hiking, nature, chill air and amazing views. This is even better when you find a place in a great location, and most of all when the people running the place have LIVED the mountains all their lives. And it shows. The passion, love, kindness they show make up for any little possible thing that might not be perfect. This place is the exact opposite of the cold, perfect, modern business chains hotels. In details: - LOCATION. the location of the hotel is great. 1600 mt guarantees a chill refreshing air even in july or august. In addition it's the starting point for many trails, from simple to hard. I didn't used my car for 5 days straight, just leaving my room and being in the woods after 3 minutes - OWNERS. Helga, Heidi and Hannes (the family running the hotel) were always happy to help us decide where to go every day, recommneding trails, itinerary and weather conditions (and i don't mean watching the forecasts only... but KNOWING how the weather is in the Mountains) - GUIDED TOURS. They also offer free trips in some trail with them (we had an amazing one with Helga), perfect to understand and discover the beauty of the Dolomites and also the less known corners. - DOGS. They had a special package for "dog holidays". I was with my partner and our 2 beautiful labradors. Everything was perfect: water bowl, blankets, towels for the dogs were already in the room. The "house" dining room is accessible with our dogs (they are well behaved) and this is a big plus for dog owners. Dogs were not only tolerated, but accepted and loved. - FOOD. A special mention also to the food: every evening the dinner was rich, tasteful, varied and with local specialties. I gained 2 KG even walking 20 km a day ! - COVID-19 related, all personnell wear masks and all attentions have been made to the guests secutiry. This meant also reducing for exapmle the salad buffet (to avoid too many people), but it was compensated by the rest. I appreciated how serious and professional they were - VIEW. A ski lane is just outside the bar, with an amazin view on Sexten Dolomites. When you wake up with such a view, the day is already perfect - SPA. the hotel also has an internal spa (included). One for families (smaller and maybe a bit aged, but with a swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam bath and sauna that are great after hiking). But the best is the second, only for adults. 97 degrees sauna, with relaxing reclined chairs with an amazing view of the mountains. We ended our day here EVERY DAY. Hiking, Spa, Dinner, repeat :) A final special thanks to Frau Helga, that made our vacation great, with trail reccomendation, and the extra mile (one of my dog injured a leg and couldn't hike, and they personally helped watching her for few hours, allowing me to go to "le 3 cime del Lavaredo" the most iconic trail and the reason for my trip. We'll definitively come back, already thinking to try it also in winter. Riccardo, Massimo, Padme and Cersei

Italian hospitality (with a German accent) at its very best

Reviewed By MarcM209

We have just spent a winter week in this fabulous alpine family hotel in the heart of the Südtirol, overlooking the beautiful and majestic Dolomites. What a wonderful and special place this is. We stayed in a lodge - a spacious double room overlooking the mountains - in the new wing of the hotel that includes the spa. The room was extremely comfortable, absolutely spotless, and it was a pleasure to come back to after a day spent outdoors. The fabulous spa is a real bonus and one of highlights of a stay here - it has been done with such care and unique style and is possibly the best spa hotel we have ever stayed at. We loved the outdoor pool, lying in the fresh and breath-achingly crisp evening air looking at the stars while luxuriating in the warmth of the pool. Very special. The saunas, steam bath and (yes) hay bath were also soothing after rigorous days on the cross-country ski trails. For us, great food and wine is always one of the most important elements of a holiday and the Romantik Hotel Santer is definitely up there with the very best. We were on half-board for a week and looked forward to dinner every night. There are three menus on offer - Romantik (sometimes classically Italian, often with truly fabulous homemade pasta), Tirolese (all the specialities of the Südtirol, such as canerdlì - big bread dumplings in broth, spatzle - spinach dumplings, wiener schnitzel, and of course strudel and other Austrian-inspired desserts), and Wellness (soup or pasta, fish, lighter dessert). Plus for all the menus a wonderful salad buffet, and fruit and local and French cheeses in excellent condition. The best thing is that it is no problem at all to chop and change between the three menus, which we did most nights. The quality of the food is very high, and chef Jurgen Santer really oversees an impressive operation. For such a busy restaurant, we were impressed that pasta and risotto were never overcooked (which of course would be a sin in Italy), and that dishes such as wiener schnitzel came to the table piping hot and just out of the fryer. Really, the food was so good, and we don't say this lightly. The restaurant also has a very good wine list, not only an excellent selection of the wonderful wines of Südtirol mainly, but also a discrete but very good selection from other regions of Italy, too, including Friuli, Veneto, Tuscany and Piedmont. There is a selection of 'bio' wines (organic) and prices are very reasonable. The service throughout the hotel is friendly and very professional. The service in the restaurant, however, must be signalled out as it is not only incredibly competent - you never have to wait too long, nor are you ever rushed - but also warm and very personal. The team is large, and many people served us over the course of the week, but all were so friendly, and so impressive linguistically, changing effortlessly from one table to the next between German, Italian, English (and probably other languages, too). While I can only praise all of the team in the restaurant, I must single out Gloria who was extremely friendly and professional, a real asset to the hotel, and Gaia, who looked after us so well during the week, and who is a very competent and knowledgable sommelier, advising on wines and vintages, and serving wine very professionally. This added greatly to our pleasure for the week. We came to Toblach to enjoy a 'settimana bianca' - with the intention to cross-country ski most days. The position of Hotel Santer is the best in town for getting straight onto the slopes by the Nordic Arena. We didn't in fact enjoy the best week of snow, it has to be said (it has been unseasonably warm and there hasn't been a huge amount of snow) but we were still able to have some wonderful days in the mountains. One of the highlights was a 21km ski up the valley to the point where we could see the famous Tre Cime (Drei Zinnen) - symbol of the Dolomites and of this very special place that UNESCO has designated a patrimony of humanity. Up in the mountains there were always welcoming restaurants where we could get a light bite - maybe a bowl of zuppa di gulasch, minestra di orzo, or a more substantial plate of sausages, sauerkraut and polenta. Washed down of course with some refreshing local beer or a glass of white wine. We would love to return to the Romantik Hotel Santer again, in winter, as well as in summer. It's a special place.
