Top 10 Hot Springs & Geysers in New Mexico, United States

January 21, 2022 Veronika Gaddis

With its rich cultural heritage from Native American and Spanish settlers, New Mexico has been both a Spanish colony and a Mexican colony, and still retains a strong individual identity within the United States. The landscape is breathtaking, the food incredible, and there is a thriving cultural scene, all of which makes New Mexico, and Santa Fe in particular, a great place all year long.

Manby Hot Springs

Located along the Rio Grande River, two primitive hot spring pools can hold five or six soakers, with attire optional.

Beautiful natural hot springs with a lot of awesome history. You can see the old wagon road from the trail. There is some hot pools and lukewarm pools. The trail down is fairly easy and short if you’re reasonably fit. It’s considered to be a nude spring and 90% of locals do go nude, so probably DO NOT go if you’re going to get huffy about naked people. Nearest non nude hot spring to Taos is Ojo Caliente.

A friend and I stopped here for a 3 hour treatment package at the end of a lovely day visiting galleries from Santa Fe to Taos. It is a peaceful atmosphere, even with many people, everything is done to make one comfortable: hydrating drinks, foot pools, soaking pools, saunas...oh and then the treatments, we had massages and salt glow rubs: both were luscious.

Jemez Hot Springs

Jemez Hot Springs, a "Mountain Tropical" Day Resort, is located at the site of the earliest Bath House in the Jemez Springs area. Before that, the mineral water was used by the Native Americans of the area. Our water comes from deep beneath the Valles Caldera (ancient volcano) up the mountain. The four pools contain an ancient sea water abundant with a relaxing and therapeutic blend of minerals such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron, silica, sodium and more. The source is 142 degrees F, but the pools are kept at a comfortable 102-104 degrees. The water is natural, and no chlorine or chemicals are added. We use ultraviolet light, ionizers and an oxygen inversions system to disinfect the water, and they are flow-through pools, so the water changes out regularly. Swim suits are required, children 14 and over are welcome, and for the comfort of our guests. Reservations are not required.

I just happened to find a coupon for this place online while on a brief two-night stop in Placitas, NM. What a wonderful find! The water was perfect.... in all four pools. Very much worth the money for a two-hour soak. Our skin was soft from the minerals for days!

Had a one-hour soak in one of the private springs (Rio) overlooking the river and Turtle Mountain. Clothing-optional in the private baths. Great water temperature, clean and a fantastic view. The lodge rooms were booked solid but next time I’ll try to stay on-site.

We stayed at Las Palomas, in the heart of the downtown hot springs district. The owner was very helpful during our stay and staff all very courteous and quiet. We appreciated the “whisper only” policy during our stay, which allowed us to focus on total relaxations. The hot spring pools there were indivual and different temps, which was also nice. Easy to book our slots. We had free range of the pools, since we were overnight guests, which I would highly recommend. Hope we can return some day....

I loved the freedom to choose what you are comfortable to do, no one really cares what your own personal choice is. We stayed in the Cholla cabin and we were really comfy . The charcoal grill was great for dinners. The front desk guys were freaking fantastic, doing their best to make wer we're having a great time. Everyone I met of the visitors was super chill and friendly. . The night sky was fantastic. The place is rustic and has an endless list of to things , but that's the kind of place we love.
