Great location

Amazing hostel right in the heart of Brighton, the only downside is you might need earplugs as close to chalk nightclub. Staff were all helpful and room lovely, clean and comfortable. Room to leave luggage when checking in or out was useful.

Near a busy road but great facilities and local area

Reviewed By Travel374702

I stayed for a night to walk nearby and kayak off the coast. The staff were really friendly and helpful and the room and facilities were good and clean. The location on the South Downs Way and near the River Ouse is great for local walks. The nearby road is busy but you can quickly get away from this and explore. I kayaked from Seaford Beach which is just a 10 minute drive and well worth a visit as is Cuckmere Haven/Birling Gap. I had a really enjoyable stay and short trip.

Shocking

Paid good money for a 2 night break, first time to Brighton. Booked through booking.com. Pictures and description seemed good so booked. On arrival, contactless. Room key in a key pad access box outside of room. Room smelt awful. Shower in room was filthy. Shared toilet stunk of smoke and unclean. Tried contacting owners but no response. Decided to leave and complain once home. Basically told non refundable and what do you expect from budget accommodation, something not made clear to me at time of booking. Ruined our first visit and anniversary trip.

AVOID at all costs! Was robbed of £300 and treated awfully.

Reviewed By corih323

I stayed here before with friends and it was ok, so I booked to stay again in May 2020. There were jo 4-bed dorms on the site, but I rang up and they told me I could book a 4-bed dorm by email, and I paid in full by bank transfer. Due to covid we unfortunately had to cancel our stay, and as we gave more than 42 days notice, according to their policy, we were entitled to a full refund. After this point all of my emails were ignored. I rang the hostel so many times and every time I was fobbed off, or promised I would get a refund which never happened. I would have been more than happy to wait for the refund, as I know how hard the hotel industry was hit by lockdowns, so I was in no rush! However they just kept promising I would be refunded, which was clearly a lie as it never happened. I was eventually told by a frustrated member of staff that had spoken to me many times by that point, that the manager just doesn't care, I was one of many disgruntled customers in the same position, and there's nothing they could do to help. I lost £300 in total. Please avoid staying here at all costs!! They are absolute criminals and shouldn't be allowed to run a hostel.

Great hostel and friendly hosts

Reviewed By crazycyke

We stayed for two nights while we explored Eastbourne and the South Downs trail. We needed somewhere clean, family-friendly and dependable. Having stayed at other YHA's before, we happily booked at YHA Eastbourne and could not have been happier. The room was clean, the hosts friendly, and the location was great for what we wanted to do. We would happily stay again and can definitely recommend it to others. Craig.

Where is our refund?

My girlfriend had booked a stay here for April 2020 for 11 guests. She has never received a confirmation email although the full payment of £300.00 was taken from her account on 31st August 2019. I have just looked online and have seen that the hostel and bar have closed down. Can you confirm when she will receive her refund and apology as this has left her up the creek without a paddle.

I stayed for one night last night. The room was basic but had everything I needed. It was clean and I had a fan in there too.. I am not sure why the windows are screwed shut but with the noise coming from the cafe/bar down below. The noise would have been worse if I had been able to open it. If you are a light sleeper then this wont be the place for you.

Good Value for Money

Reviewed By faithmunyui18

Good hotel, nice breakfast, lot's of variations of different food types, good view outside window we could see the beach from our window which was beautiful. However, lot's of stairs so if you have lot's of luggage i wouldn't recommend, because we had suitcases and struggled to get out luggage up and own the stairs. Furthermore, rooms are small, so i wouldn't recommend for bigger families. Also windows were broken, so there are hazards.
